Auto-on? With a lil knowledge of electronics this can be done easily
Expandability? USB - Firewire enough for me. But OK, you win (maybe :P )

So I think its indeed not one size fits all
where did you get that for 100 bucks... ebay?

I have one hting to say:

One problem with laptops and a 7" screen - they cant do 800x480

There are lots of problems. Ihave to say a laptop install causes more headaches than an epia install. Trust me, i started out using a laptop.

Oh for god sake!!! It depends on your grpahics card and most laptops have onboard graphics that cannot do custom resolutions. Only newer, expensive ones with GeForce and ATI mobile GPUs are liekly o be able to do it.

Yup but powerstrip only supports certain cards. At over 2k posts i think i ahve read enough of this forum to have thought of powerstrip. I am sure it is great for new AGP cards etc but for laptops and IGP - i aint had much luck.

I never felt 800x480 was that big of a deal... the only thing that is thrown off is
the DVD video.. and not that bad...

I still think the laptop is the better way to go I got my P3 500 for 150$ off ebay...
My buddy got a p4 laptop for 240$ off ebay.. I will upgrade when I have the money...

Only limitation is your locked into the laptop video card... but for what a carputer display needs,
anything in a P3 laptop (even a P2) is powerful enuff.

Until someone writes a full 3D front end that is
CarPuter: Dell P3-500 Laptop; D-Link WiFi; Deluo GPS; D-Link Radio; iMac DVD w/ ide2usb
Audio: Audigy 2 NX; Kicker KX700.5 amp; 20w center amp; Kicker L7 10" Sub
    Display: Lilliput 7" TouchScreen
