    Perfect Tablet

For everyone considering a Tablet for the car, this could be the one.

h20s, You're going to be used as an example.
You are, whether or not you intended to be, a n00b.
    We're going to examine why.

You posted a link to the OQO device, which is somewhere between a PDA and a full PC, running full WindowsXP. It does look like a pretty cool device.
    However....

There are many discussions about the OQO already here.

modUlarBeing knew it was already known about when he posted about the OQO a little over a year ago:
    the OQO has arrived!

ApoloV saw it six months earlier:
    Awesome little product..

Lastly, Lando thought it looked cool two and a half years ago:
    Perfect Computer For Mobile MP3

If you'll notice in each of those links, OQO is bold and in red, like this: OQO
That's because I searched for OQO and found those threads. The forums conveniently highlight the keywords I search for. Thanks vBulletin!

Anyway, the point is, there are exactly fourteen threads about this little comptuer going back to April 2002. One thread actaully has some serious discussion about how to installs and what potential pitfalls would be and the like.
I don't have an OQO, but I know quite a bit about it. How could this be?

I use the tools that are available to me, not only on this forum, bot on the internet as a whole. Tools such as Google. OK, maybe only one tool, really.

So, h20s, You're a n00b. It's not because you have a post count of six. That makes you a newbie, which we welcome. New blood is always nice.
This posting, however makes you a n00b, or at least exhibits n00b-like behavior. This is what we want to correct.

These forums are a wealth of information. I have learned much from hanging around here that are making my project come together exactly the way I want. However, it is up to the users to locate the information. It's a matter of being self-sufficient, which is a characteristic you must possess in order to pull off your carPC project (or any project, really). So when a n00b (or someone acting like a n00b, because we all have lapses, myself included) commits the foul, I believe education is the key.

So, consider yourself educated. There is a wealth of information. You search on the keyword OQO, you'll find 15 threads (this one is now included!)

Please understand that this isn't done in the spirit of malice or hate, but rather in an attempt to educate for the betterment of the community as a whole.

    Thank you.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

At least Darque wrote out why he was a n00b, instead of just saying "stfu n00b".

This is awesome. There should be a new thread in the FAQ: How to tell if you are a nOOb or a newbie! and this should be stickied there, Great job!

So just to make sure I have everything down.

H20's a newbie (and it says so right under his name)

DarquePervert is somewhat of a jerk (although that is missing under his).

Bottom line is not everyone has seen this device (or knows what to call it). I personally spend quite a bit of time on here (lurking more than posting) but I did enjoy reading up on this device.

Now DarquePervert you found 14 threads going back over 2.5 years. hmm while I do search (and I do think others should as well), this does not seem to be a overused topic (I mean come on 14 threads in 2.5 years).

Simply telling h2os to search would have been an easier (and more polite) way of getting your point across. You may not have been trying to do that out of malice but it sure seemed like it.

    Just my .02 though

Simply telling him to search teaches him and everyone else nothing. The explanation was the good part.

DarquePervert was also making an important distinction.

What he is saying is that new people are welcome here and that it is great to have more people involved in this hobby.

Maybe there are betterrrr examples than the OQO but the point is the same. Search before you post.

I have only been here a short time and I constantly see posts that I have seen dozens of times before.

DarquePervert is giving some advice to newbies how to become valued members of the community and explain why members get upset at seeing the same things over and over again- and why it is important to search. Everyone misses things at times, or gets excited and wants to share or simply might get lazy once in a while - DarquePervert is saying don't make a habit of it unless you want people to give you a hard time.

I thought that DarquePervert was thoughtful and fair and was not being a jerk at all.
