I have 3 laptops that I dont mind hacking into pieces in order to have a nice to decent carpc in my 2002 wrx wagon.
I'm on a pretty low budget as I don't "need" this, but would like it if I can do so pretty cost effective.
Hardware I have:
-Toshiba Portege 3110CT
-Toshiba Tecra 8100
A possible good thing about this laptop is it has a video line out
-hp pavilion ze1115
-DC inverter 400watts
-kenwood 4 channel amp.
I wanted to use the 10 inch screen with the Tecra 8100, however the lcd plug is different and so is the wire count.
My goals for the system is to handle: mp3,dvd,gps,wireless, USB for camera access. Maybe have the FM tuner in the computer so that I may ditch the stock radio.
What do you guys thing, im sure your creative mind will kick my *** at the moment.. school leaves little room on my brain as of late.

I would go with the hp pavilion ze1115. Then buy yourself a vga lcd monitor.

Search the "Show off your projects" section for laptop installs.
Search for "laptop", "startup" - some good threads with a lot of info.

Either the Tecra 8100 or the HP should do you fine.
I'm using a PIII 700-m w/ 256MB RAM. It's fast enough to do anything and everything that I would want to do in a car (MP3, GPS, DVD, etc...)

Yeah, I actually got this from a bad batch. 50% of them had this break. I just need to find the piece or rig something up. I'm diagraming my system and will post for you pros to critique it.

Make sure you put the goose down before you start tinkering with the computer, and your car, or it might lead to a VERY EXPENSIVE buzz.
