    multiple monitors for laptop

How ya'll doing? New here. I've checked this site out once or twice before, really nice stuff you guys do!
Anyway, i have anew laptop inspiron 700m 2 mnths old. My kid pulled it off the table and messed up the lcd. sell wants $500 to fix. I found on diff. site the lcd for $350 and fix my self.
What i was thinking of doing is remove the entire lcd flip up. Have a monitor at my desk, one in my shop and one in my 1999 Range Rover. I want to use the computer in my car for diagnostics(to be bought throuout the year-$2500) and audio/video. I also have a 40gb portable hd that will be just for the car.
Well, i guess that's it but i have not really a clue on where to begin or what to buy. I would like to get out of this fairly cheaply but also don't want to buy a crap stuff either. Would any body care to help help me out?

    Thanks,
    Mud.

I think you need to come up with more specific questions, search for them, then post any that remain unanswered in appropriate threads to get better responses.

Most of the people here that know what they are talking about have posted and re-posted the same answers over and over. They got a lot of their knowledge from searching this site and expect others to do the same.

I'd love to help you, but I'm no expert, yet.

I would be glad to help out but to be honest I am not sure what question you are asking.

I think you are asking if you can take the laptop and switch it from the car to inside your home/shop/vehicle. If thats the question then it shouldnt be a problem (as you said have a monitor for each place and your good to go).

You would probably do better if you searched for "laptop install" or "pull out install". I will tell you this....its hard to do this "cheaply". I have done ok but I dont have near the system as some on here.

Just kick back and search through the forums and you will get all of the answers you seek

You do need to be more specific. It seems like you want to build a car computer utilizing your laptop, and then you want to be able to take it out of your car easily and use it in your home office and also in your shop.

You should focus on the car computer first because this will take the most research and time. Read the FAQs, search the "projects" section for laptop installs and search the forum for laptop installs - especially for "laptop", "startup".

One way to do what you want is to set up your car computer with the laptop and a docking station and a small touch screen monitor like xenarc or liliput. Then you could have standard computer monitors in the other 2 locations with docking stations. and just bring the laptop wherever you want and slide it into the docking station.

If your "desk" and "shop" are near each other you could have one docking station and use a vga splitter wired to multiple monitors.

I have the same laptop in my install... even used the 12.1 widescreen from it in portrait mode.... once you get this in the car & working completely I think you will find more & more that your not going to be wanting to take it in & out all that much,

I don't get what you mean when you say "What i was thinking of doing is remove the entire lcd flip up. " did you put the new screen in or is it still with a broken screen?

one draw back to using this laptop with no original screen is that the post & bios screens aren't visable on external monitor if I'm not mistaken, once past post though, comes up on external display...
