Thread: Have power to my laptop but it does not charge the battery

I have my Gateway 600YGR running off the Carnetix P1900 set at 20v and it works great. Check the actual voltage at the connector coming out of your AC adapter and at the connector attached to your P1900 and you'll see where you need to set it. At 19V on the P1900, I was only getting 18.5V at the connector and at 20V, it was dead on 19.5V.

Another thing (a great tip I got from someone here), before you go too far, check your Dell. The d610s I just got at work have an extra pin in the connector. The laptop uses that to make sure you're using a genuine Dell power supply...the P1900 probably won't send the right signal. I don't know what that third pin actually carries.

good lord. something like this, if accurate, may require me quite the rewrite of how i've done things...

it just sank in...
the switch to 20v had no effect. i just realized that my beautiful little power setup is screwed.

Wow, sounds like a violation of the magnusson-moss act. I wonder how they got away with that.

get a lind power adaptor & trip a relay with your p1900 to power it.... either that or remove the battery... if you using a startup shutdown controller it's doing nothing for you anyway.....
