P1900 + Dell Laptop and docking station
I have been lurking here for several weeks as I have been considering building my own in-car computer. I finally was able to get all of the parts, and I installed everything into my car yesterday.
I have run into one problem with my P1900 that has me stumped. I have spent quite a while searching previous posts here and have come up dry on my particular problem. I have posted a question to the carnetix forums, but I thought I might cross post it here, as these forums seem to have more activity. I thought hopefully someone out there would know the answer.
The following is my post to the carnetix forums:
I have it powering a dell docking station with the 20v primary rail. The Docking station requires a 90w output to run. Looking at the instruction manual, I see that the P1900 can do up to 6.32 amps. All i need is 20v at 4.5 amps so I know the P1900 should be able to do it. The problem is, when I hook up the P1900 to the docking station, i get an arror that it is only running at 70w (20v x 3.5 amps) and needs 4.5 amps. Is there any way I can force the P1900 to output 4.5 amps?
If that isn't possible, the only other solution I could think of would be to wire up an auto adapter to the laptop that I know works. The only problem with that is it would take an input of 12v, and I already have a device on the 12v secondary rail. I am afraid if I hooked up the laptop to that rail, I would overload the P1900. Is there any way to get the primary rail to output at 12v also? I would prefer to not have to do it this way, but will if I have no other option.
