Is this a common thing? I've not heard anyone complain of it, but maybe I missed something? I'd hate to ruin my screen.Originally Posted by dsballer2000

I will not keep this as my setup even if i wired a power button to the front because i don't want my laptop lcd screen to crack because of temperature/bumping reasons.
Remember its so much easier to replace a desktop component than it is to replace a laptop component. Plus its a lot cheaper.
Mark, if you follow my steps for when I did my fabrication I would change a few things.
First, use 3m or higher quality bumper repair. In the long run it'll be worth it, especially after putting so much time into it.
Second, before applying the plastic repair kit, make sure you rough up the areas on the bezel that you will apply it to. I mean deep cuts so that the plastic forms to it an holds the plastics casing and the bezel together nicely.
Last, make sure you go to the edge of the bezel when applying the plastic. This will hide all the imperfections between the plastic repair substance and the actual bezel.
Hope this helps! Matrix will vouch for this also, working with the bezel in an mkiii is a pain and you will spend a lot of time and frustration with it. Mine took about 20+ hours to finish but it was def worth it all.

I'm in Canada where we get hot summers and very cold winters. The extreme conditions can't be good for it. I worry about my touchscreen alone.
lol please tell me that's not an actual picture!
Why laptop? get tablet or convertablet. Im using convertablet by Acer, mayby not your best choige but has worked acceptably. Prob is though port replicator for acer models wont do ****, it has too short cable to plug in tablet and hide in car... Big plus is though that they have lightweight tablet sleevebags, so u can easily take it away from car with u, without worrying looking too dork...
cold winters and hot summers - brilliant
in the uk we just get a kind of greyness, with about a week of warm summer in august. and rain much of the rest of the time
I have a tablet too. I was using this originally but its work's so if i got it stolen I'd been in ****! lolWhy laptop? get tablet or convertablet. Shotgun: That's brutal. I havent had that bad of a winter in forever!
I'm also using a tablet and mounting it to my dash. Click the link in my signature (below) to check out what i've done.
In terms of ease of setup, you can not go wrong with a tablet. it's the perfect all in one solution for someone that doesnt wanna hack their interiors up, spend tons of money on parts, worrying about power sources, etc.
craigslist (the nyc one) lately has had some awesome deals on laptops. if anything, i would get like an older laptop (p3 1ghz and above) and just buy a lilliput 7" touch screen to putput the video to. that'd be the second "cleanest" setup that you can do and price-wise, it wouldn't be so bad. honestly, the touch screen monitor would be more expensive than a p3/p4 laptop via craigslist.
me? i wanted a huge screen up front which is why I use my tablet. F$ck spending $800 on a 10" touch screen. my 12.1" touch screen lights up my interior at night and everyone in surrounding cars or suv's pulls up to my doors and sneaks a peek.... DON'T THINK I DON'T NOTICE!
