Its a little expensive but it works great and for Dell, its the only auto/air adapter that you can use. Proprietary bull****, you can not buy a generic one to my knowledge.

OK, I'm going to work on eliminating the noise, then I'll deal w/ how to get the wires up to the battery.
Maybe this "universal auto/air/wall" adapter I'm using is converting DC-AC-DC even when plugged into the cigaretter lighter? (which I understand creates alot of noise)
I think my next step is to find a DC-DC powersupply that has a tip for my laptop. I've started reading about the carnetix, but I'm thinking that I'll try to find something from Radioshack or Fry's (both have options for < $30, but the trick will be finding one w/ a tip for my Dell laptop)
Thanks for all the advise!! This forum is great.

This is a little troubling as I just bought the kensington for my setup. However, I dont think it would convert up to AC (its just to small to be an inverter too) but I wonder about the noise you are getting. It makes me wonder about the power supply or video board on your laptop (is it functioning correctly?). Did you try a ferite choke near the end of the power cable?
I have been using a targus 120w adapter on my laptop for a long time and never had a problem with noise in my RX-7 or the honda. Problem with those are they are discontinued and the tips are garbage.
