Well I don't think there is any specific advice or walkthrough, but you might find something useful in the thread for the laptop module in my sig... a few folk have posted pics of their systems taken apart and the process...![]()
I know this topic has been discussed before, i've seen the thread w/ pictures but I just cant find it right now...
I have an HP NC6220 laptop. I would like to know how to take it apart to get to the power button connections so that I can solder in an external power button (this way I dont have to open the lid every time I need to start it up)
Thank you,
Boris.

Also, be aware, some computers won't power on with an external switch if the lid is closed. Thats how it was on my computer. There is either a mechanical switch or a magnetic switch that lets the computer know if the lid is open or closed. I took off the LCD bezel and there was a 1/4"x1/8" magnet. I removed that and it fools the computer into thinking the lid is always open... just disconnect your screen from the video card so you don't waste power. That's what I did.
For taking apart any laptop, the best thing to do is look for a service manual for your model of laptop. I tried looking for one for your model, and couldn't find one. With your long and diligent searching, however, you can probably turn one up.
I am interested to know about this as well. my switch seems to have more than 2 leads coming out if it and that concerns me. What are the other leads for? If I dont make contact on them as well would it mean my system wont start?
For my system there were 4 leads too. Just prod around with a paperclip (unsafe as it seems) and it shouldn't cause any harm. That's how I found the right two leads on my power switch.
Check out this link from the HP website. Hope that this is the one that you are looking for.

The common tactile pushbuttons have 4 pins. The 2 on each side are connected together, so you need to solder a wire to either pin on each side.
