    There's 10" and there's 8", but I need help with a 9"

I'm looking to do a CarPC for a high school project, so I've been doing a little research. I'm one of those people where if I'm gonna do something, I want to make it the biggest and best I can.

I have a 2005 Honda Civic, and I've been looking at all the great civic installs, but they're all 7" hacks. I wanted to put in a 10.4" widescreen, but it would be such a tight squeeze (even after removing all casing) I'm afraid that after I take it all apart, it will be all for nothing. I don't think an 8" is worth remodeling my entire dash for, but if i could get a 9" widescreen, I think it would be more appealing.

I've been googling touchscreens and I've read that there are a few (very few apparently) 9" screens, but I cant find any info on them, let alone if they're any good.

Any questions, comments, or concerns are greatly appreciated!

i can say that over the couple of years that i've been doin this, i don't recall seeing a 9" widescreen...that doesn't mean that such a beast does not exist, just that they can't be all that common. 7" IMO, is enough in most cases, altho bigger screens in the back might be nice.

    Looking good

Thanks for the links! I knew there had to be a few out there, I want to keep looking a little longer before i do any deep research into any particular screen.

I did some quick measurements and a 9" screen is perfect.

Thanks for your help everyone! and if anybody else has any other screens and such, I'd love to have more input.

9" widescreen LCD panels do exist.. I have three of them.

I'm the thread owner for the referenced thread above (9.0" Wide LVDS LCD Panel?, and the last pieces of the puzzle are now just coming into place.

The custom cable I've had made should be arriving on Monday or Tuesday.

    Still thinking

Well, it's either going to be a 9" or a 7". I'm looking for a way to control my climate controls via a mac mini (running XP or vista). Below is a picture of what i have to work with. (ignore the arrows, i just googled this)

I really don't want to have to relocate the controls, I'd much prefer it to be on the carPC. This is the deciding factor of my screen size, If I can hook these climate controls up to the mini, then 9" it is, if not, I will have to stick with a 7".

    I know about http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/hard...-lpt-port.html
But I don't know if that will work with the controls on my civic, much less how to hook it up myself.

Giuliano, I would love to hear your thoughts about the 9" screens you have, and which you think is the best/easiest to integrate into a car.

"Best" is usually inversely proportional to "easiest", in my book. :-)

The 9" LCD panels I'm working with are documented in this thread:

    9.0" Wide LVDS LCD Panel?

Being able to use them is a rather advanced topic, and requires some serious knowledge, in addition to some specific (expensive) hardware.

As for the whole computer-controlled A/C controls.. I've thought about it myself, as my WRX has all electronic climate controls..

It would be extremely tough to figure it all out.
