You should power it from the PSU's 12V rail or get a 12V regulator and power it from. 16GA or 18GA is good enough for serveral feet.

Hey I basically have the same question. Would 16GA speaker wire be good enough for this or would I need to get power wire?

The screen draws about an amp. maybe a bit more. So any wire that has bout the same amount of copper as what is on the cig lighter adapter cord, will work.

I personally think the best way to do it other than to your psu since you cant do that, is to just chop off the end of the cig lighter adapter, and wire those to your car's +12 and chassis. Now this will only work if there is an "egg" or a little black box thing on the cord that regulates the voltage, or if the screen has a range for the voltage input on the back of it.

If your monitor must have +12v not 6v-14v and there is no egg, then the regulator is inside the plug part. In that case go to ratshack and get the $10 converter from cig lighter to bare wire. Connect, glue, tape up so no shorts.

Then grab +12v from the battery, and ground to a good spot. The factory radio grounding spot should be sufficient
