    Xenarc with laptop problem

I have a really weird problem. I'm running road runner with simplistque skin on a dell 600m with an ati radieon 9000.

I have it set to 800x600, and it seems to work fine, other then when i select videos in road runner the resolution switches to 600x480 and the bottom part of the screen disappears.

    Any ideas on what's up?

In the skins ini file, do you have the values set correctly?

Other than that I am not really sure what could make it work for some screens and not others.

I tried auto detect on the screen and it didn't work. I also tried re0installing the newest version of roadrunner, and trying different skins.

I still had the same problem.

...I know for a fact a mobility Radeon 9000 can be made to obey powerstrip, but you need new drivers (from ATI, not from Dell). You must either modify existing ATI "Catalyst" drivers for installation on a mobile chipset, or obtain modified drivers. Others have done so with this chipset on your machine.

There's this guy named Omega who modifies drivers himself, and makes them available for download. These should work for your laptop/graphics chipset. Starting with Catalyst 6.6, however, the 9000 mobility chipset is no longer supported by ATI, so you may have trouble with newer drivers. From this page:

    http://www.omegadrivers.net/archive.php

...stick with Catalyst 6.5 and older. IIRC, 6.5 supports powerstrip.

Another way to modify ATI Catalyst drivers so they could be installed on mobile chipsets was to use a program called mobilemod:

...but the program is old, and newer versions won't work on the older drivers that support your hardware. You would have to obtain an older version of the proggy that works on Catalyst 6.5 or older, along with a set of legacy drivers.

So the video problme is fixed. The resolution stays the same. Thanks to hithere.

I do have a new problem though: when i click on videos it plays them fine on the laptop but it doens't play it on the lcd screen. This is also the case when i'm out of road runner and just using media player classic. I hear the sound but no video on the lcd screen, but its fine on the laptop screen.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I think you have to mess around with the overlay settings in the ATI control panel...maybe you can't run a hardware accelerated overlay on both screens at the same time? Or, perhaps you can swap output modes with the Fn/F8 keys? I seem to remember a "theater mode" for just such occaisions, where you want to clone video between displays. Anywho, www.rage3d.com is the place to ask card-specific questions on Radeons.

    Hey,

Thanks so much, this problem was driving me crazy. I looked up my overlay in the display properties and changed it to same for everything in theater mode.

    Thanks again.
