Will be UK ones if I can find where I got mine.That'd be a pain in the butt. The power supply and inverter and all that business is in the trunk. The last thing in the world I want to do is run another wire under the carpet up to the dash. That was a royal pain the first time.
I will gladly accept links to online stores that sell regulators though...

Well let's not get ahead of ourselves here. The fuse the enforcer mentioned is most likely the problem based on the symptoms. The death was sudden, and after a short in the power line. A fuse is 98% likely to be the culprit.
I'll deal with on board voltage regulators only when I have to.

Packed the screens away for now so I can't look. Might have a look tomorrow when I get them out to play with again.

I haven't fixed this yet, but I did diagnose the problem thanks to all your help.
It absolutely was the fuse that was blown. I shorted it out and the whole thing powered up just fine. Now I just need to get teh replacement fuse and cram it in there and I'll be all set to go...at least enough tos tart diagnosing whatever's wrong with the rest of the computer. haha
