I know its simple but have you ruled out the possibility of the volume being very low or even muted on the screen itself. I forget if there is a button on the screen itself but I know the remote has volume +/- and mute button. Do you have any other speakers to test your sound card or computer output with?

Well, if it's the same monitor, there's a pair of speakers hooked up to the jack closest to the VGA connector in this pic:

It almost looks as if they're connected directly to the jack, but if the monitor has any volume control, then they must be hooked to a header right next to the jack so the monitor can control the signal level. Maybe you need to look for a volume control?

CarPC v2.5 up and running - all hardware installed, skin configured, and iG tweaked like crazy. Now for OBD-II, and voice control, and camera plugin, and... :nutz: - it never ends!

I tested my pc audio out with another speaker and it works. The volume on the screen is maxed out and it is not muted. I might try to open it to see if anything is loose.

Do you guys hear static when switching between PC/AV1/AV2? There is a brief sound coming out when I press the button that changes input.

I never heard any static when switching inputs on my screen. I honestly can't remember if I got the speakers to work on my monitor. I don't have any plans to use them however I remember using a pair of headphones to test the output on the computer as I needed that. Might have been cause I couldn't find a pass through cable to go from comp to the monitor though but I can't remember now. If your getting some sort of static when changing inputs I would think something may be loose inside.

Bought 2 of these guys...found out the hard way the lamp wires are thin and not so well connected. After a few attempts to solder them back into place i bought a second unit. A friend and i promptly tore the new case open, fired up the panel and got nothing but flashing and a burnt electrical smell....all the boards are well insulated....any idea whats wrong with number two?...anybody?

    All -

I purchased an 8" version of this monitor to test as we were considering carrying it on the store here.

I'm having a hard time following how so many of you are so happy with it.

Some of the issues I found:

    • The holes for the cables are actually drilled into the case, not molded into the case. It’s almost like the board was just put into a random case, not a case that was specifically designed for this use.
    • The power cable sticks out of the side of the monitor, it’s not recessed at all and can probably pretty easily come out.
    • It’s a bit confusing to hook up
      • VGA extension cable that it comes with also has a power port…but there’s no need for a power plug for it
      • AV extension that it comes with also has a power port…but there’s no need for a power plug for it
    • AV connection to the monitor is made with a USB cable off the side of the monitor (like the power connection)
      • The cable is USB to the various AV cable outs
    • At the initial start-up, the monitor is on AV1, you have to manually switch from AV1, to AV2, then to VGA to get the computer signal to display.
      • Luckily, this display stays on this setting on reboot, have yet to test this when power is removed.
    • The drivers that were provided with the monitor were on a burned CD, no markings at all
      • They were OLD drivers (same as Lilliput and Xenarc used at one time)
      • Installed them and couldn’t get it to find the right connection
      • Uninstalled them and downloaded the new drivers from the Xenarc web site and it worked fine

    Some pictures:

I should note that on the VGA cable coming out on the other side of the mounting point, the cable had been nicked because of this method. There's NO protection other than the jacket of the wire.

The power connector is EXTREMELY flimsy. Both Xenarc and Lilliput monitors have some kind of a locking connection. While Xenarc doesn't physically lock in, it's a better fit and is less likely to just fall out, unlike this thing. Not to mention, having it sticking out like that means that you have to have an even wider area to mold your screen into your dash.

    Just a front picture.

I totally agree with the cable arrangement sucks coming right off the side on that 8". I am happy with how the 10.4" works the cables are recessed into the back of the case enough to make it more manageable and come off the bottom instead. I have only about 4 hours or time using this monitor on my desk when setting up the computer but it worked fine. As for the case I didn't totally inspect it as it will either be discarded or cannibalized in the install as long as it functions properly I am happy with it.

My drivers were also on a blank CD-R, I thought this was odd, however I put it into the drive and it had stuff on it and they worked properly. I did the 9 point and then I believe the 21 point calibration and each seemed to work great. I couldn't comment on if the drivers were old or not, never bothered to check as it never crossed my mind.

I would say out of everything my biggest gripe would be only being able to go up to 600x480 resolution before the picture starts to get blurry and such. However when running at that resolution everything seems clear and bright so I guess no major gripes. I'll see after its all installed and running for a couple of months though and if it can stand the tests of time and my rough riding truck.

    Question 10.4 Overheating?

    Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum/community/etc but have read through most of this thread, as it's what caused me to purchase my 10.4" Shark. So far it seems like a great bang for the buck but I've noticed some serious heating issues coming from the power supply. After having it on for approx 30 min, the bottom left corner of the screen (where the power comes in) is incredibly hot to the touch. Using a thermal gun I got reads of ~130°F in the bottom left and ~94°F in the top right of the screen itself (not the frame).

    Further info:
    - I had it laying flat on a plastic tabletop (although I have used it in the stand and still seems to get hot)
    - I'm using the 120V AC adapter..I haven't tried the 12V cigarette jack.. could it be a problem with the adapter?

Also what really started worrying me was that I began to see a bit of discoloration in the hot corner and even a tiny piece of the corner had gone black. I checked it again this morning after being off all night and all the discoloration/blackness was gone...

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I attempt to talk to gooddeals about an RMA?

Anything ya got would be great

On a side note, I've noticed how you and some other people have complained about the 8" having power on the side. I purchased an 8" for my cousin in addition to my 10 (got us the free shipping!) and was able to play with it. I must admit the placement seems pretty dumb (and excuse me if this has already been addressed and I'm beating a ) but the power port coming off the VGA can be used to power the monitor via some of the unused VGA pins. You don't have to use the lame side power port at all. It's quite handy actually!

Yea mine doesn't do that. That is the area that the backlight inverter is around. My guess would be that it is the problem.

    I would suggest an RMA.
