I purchased an 8" version of this monitor to test as we were considering carrying it on the store here.

I'm having a hard time following how so many of you are so happy with it.

Some of the issues I found:

    • The holes for the cables are actually drilled into the case, not molded into the case. It’s almost like the board was just put into a random case, not a case that was specifically designed for this use.
    • The power cable sticks out of the side of the monitor, it’s not recessed at all and can probably pretty easily come out.
    • It’s a bit confusing to hook up
      • VGA extension cable that it comes with also has a power port…but there’s no need for a power plug for it
      • AV extension that it comes with also has a power port…but there’s no need for a power plug for it
    • AV connection to the monitor is made with a USB cable off the side of the monitor (like the power connection)
      • The cable is USB to the various AV cable outs
    • At the initial start-up, the monitor is on AV1, you have to manually switch from AV1, to AV2, then to VGA to get the computer signal to display.
      • Luckily, this display stays on this setting on reboot, have yet to test this when power is removed.
    • The drivers that were provided with the monitor were on a burned CD, no markings at all
      • They were OLD drivers (same as Lilliput and Xenarc used at one time)
      • Installed them and couldn’t get it to find the right connection
      • Uninstalled them and downloaded the new drivers from the Xenarc web site and it worked fine

    Some pictures:

I should note that on the VGA cable coming out on the other side of the mounting point, the cable had been nicked because of this method. There's NO protection other than the jacket of the wire.

The power connector is EXTREMELY flimsy. Both Xenarc and Lilliput monitors have some kind of a locking connection. While Xenarc doesn't physically lock in, it's a better fit and is less likely to just fall out, unlike this thing. Not to mention, having it sticking out like that means that you have to have an even wider area to mold your screen into your dash.

    Just a front picture.

Why does your 8" screen look different than the one gooddeal is selling right now?

Your bezel is different than the one in the link above. I just want to make sure you are talking about the right lcd screen.

I'll check out my 10" for hotspot issue tonight.

Does anyone know what the mounting style for the 10" lcd is called? I want to get a mount like this

    http://65.102.174.116/rammount/produ...mber=RAM-109HU

that fits into the 10" lcd.

If they shipped you the screen in my link, then the power plug input should be on the bottom like the 10". Instead you got this lcd with a different bezel than advertised.

Gooddeals uses the same images for both the 8" and 10" screens. All the 8" are designed as seen in RedGTi's, but show the same pictures from the 10". A bit misleading...

Also, I've read from some people that the 8" looks nice and crisp at 800x600 but I could not get these results (I've checked the refresh rate). A front end looks fine and all but WinXP device fonts for example are still crummy. In fact, it looks more "bearable" at 1024x768. Can anyone testify to 800x600 on the 8" being truly CRISP or is it still a bit "fuzzy" in Windows?

P.s. I've decided to go ahead and RMA my 10" (with the heat issue)...There's no way this is normal. It nearly exceeds its own operating temperature and would eventually black out approx a 4x9 pixel triangle in the bottom left corner because of the heat. After turning it off for a while it comes back to normal (i.e. not dead pixels, but..well.."burnt" ones I suppose )

I agree the lamp wires suck. I ended up resoldering my wires, before I got it in place.

I ditched the original cabinet all together, so I didn't have any issues with cable routing or heat.

I did find that the "PHASE" adjustment makes a HUGE difference in off angle viewing. I thought I was going to have to mount it upside down. Turns out some tweaking with the phase adjustment, got me the vertical viewing angle that I needed.

I'd say reasonable screen for the price.

My 2 cents on the 10.4"

The touchscreen had to go. It had so much glare all I could focus on was the passenger and/or seat to the right.

So I took off the touchscreen and it made a HUGE difference. Much better in direct sunlight now also. And the screen is nice and bright and looks great at 800x600. With HD movies it looks awesome.

Cons : Spent $220 and didn't need the touchscreen.

    Guess I could sell it

i've managed to lose the 12v adapter that goes to the touch screen so i come to this thread looking for some possible answers. any answer will help.

    1. could someone take a picture of the adapter?
    2. where the adapter connects to the screen, is 12v carried on the pin or outside?
    3. does anyone have the figures for power use (current) for the screen?
    4. if anyone has anything else that might help me get the screen working without the supplied 12v adapter, let me know.

    thanks

For the eby701? *edit Oopps, sorry, got threads mixed up. Had another tab open. comments are still valid though*

    1. Mine is buried in the spare parts pile somewhere, sorry. What do you want off the adapter that a picture can show you? Specs?
    2. IIRC, 12v+ is the center pin. Almost all power pins are 12v+ one the center pin. Harder to short something to ground that way.
    3.Some specs here
    4. Just wire 12v from the car system or from 12v+ rail on the puter. 12v+ rail is more stable though. Your choice.

    Cheers

I just got mine today. Still haven't got the touchscreen drivers to work yet but the picture is very crisp at 800x600x32bit 60hz, cleartype. even the smallest type is very readable. Now if only I could get the touchscreen drivers to work.
