Do you use your screens buttons?

Just what the title says.

I'm doing a double DIN computer and don't have much room. The Lilliput buttons are on a board that is too long for me to put on the side and I don't have room to put them on the top or bottom, so I'm wondering if I even need them.

I removed the buttons from my lilliput screen. I just extended the IR receiver and use the remote control to adjust the screen whenever I need too.

I never use the buttons but i have them glued to the back of my bezel as a backup

before you remove them, make sure you program the hidden auto on/off feature. You need those buttons to do so. The remote control won't work for that process.

There was a thread here recently about someone who removed their buttons, and then needed them to switch AV inputs. I guess if you turn on then off the screen rapidly or something it may switch av inputs on you. So keep the bezel as a backup somewhere, even if behind the screen, or at a minimum, relocate the IR receiver to a vent. I personally have all the buttons on my screen, but use them only for power. If it is a really dark night, and I am delivering to a bad area, I turn my screen off before I get close. Because when you deliver, you become a target for idiot thieves, and a glow of a big 'ol screen means mega-money to them. They dont know until after they rip it out it is worthless to a pawn shop.

Thanks for the info. I will most likely relocate the IR receiver. Although, I just took apart the screen and didn't see one. Of course, I wasn't looking. And I will put the buttons inside somewhere.

how do you program the auto on/off feature? just the first time you hook it up?

I use the buttons on our screen all the time.

Dimming at night is crucial...just relying on the front end isn't enough many times.

Thanks for the reply Red. I'll have to reconsider this.

Also, I don't understand the auto power on thing. On my bench, when the power is turned off to the power supply, which would be equivalent to turning off the car, the screen has no power. When I turn the power on, the screen buttons light up indicating that it has power, but the screen stays blank. Then when I boot up the computer, the screen jumps to life and displays as normal. I'm pretty sure I don't have to hit the power button on the monitor. So isn't this the way I would want it in the car? Is this auto on mode and I just got lucky? What's the deal?
