    The LCD Thread

It seems it's been a while since someone has put together a collaboration of LCDs, and specifically *good* non-transflective LCDs for the budget install.

Hopefully this will make it to the sticky list as well.

It would be good to put together a thread of links to known ready-to-install LCD panels and hopefully reviews and specs of those panels and side-by-side comparisons if available. The goal is to find the best of the best of non-transflective displays (for those of us that don't want to spend $600 on an LCD)

    Post your links and reviews.

    ---------------------------------------------

Here's what I've put together so far.

I personally own this one, and let me tell you it SUCKS. When I got
this I didn't realize how important brightness was for a carputer.
This thing at it's highest brightness setting is black in direct
sunlight, and hard to read on a bright overcast day. The only time
it's all that usable is at night, or very overcast. Don't buy this
    one.

    VM7000-7-touchscreen $215.00

All the other monitors you listed are bad for sunlight. Yor main grip about the above one will be the same with all of those.

This is exactly the type of information I would like to put together. If you have any, please post info about LCDs that work out okay in sunlight.

You do realize that all "ebay" screens (Ex-Audio, Super, tv-view, yadda yadda yadda) are all the exact same screen! They are all rebranded lilliputs. Then seperate there is Xenarc. That is it.

So your total and final list is:

    Lilliput
    Xenarc

    and that is it.

That's news to me, thanks! I realized they were all rebranded, just didn't know who made them originally

In terms of just specs, the 500 cd/m XENARC 700YV seems to be the brightest of the bunch. I've read all over the forms that the Xenarc is the better brand.

The review on the Dynamix looks good though, the reviewer says that it is readable in sunlight. So far I haven't seen any hard evidence of the other LCD's being readable in sunlight. So this Dynamix... would it be a rebranded Xenarc/Liliput as well?

The dynamix is not a sunlight readable monitor. Its easier to read then other ones maybe but nothing like the mp3car transflective monitor.

Im working on a sunlight readable upgrade atm. On a 15.4" wxga laptop lcd panel. The 84 LEDs, alloy sheeting, 2amp dimmer and a couple case fans is going to cost me around $300 and should give me an extremely bright screen. Check my worklog for updates on it.
    Continued Worklog... Upgrades in progress:
*15.4" WXGA LED backlight touchscreen upgrade
    *Custom fiberglass dash bezel

The dynamic 816 monitor is bright. You able to see in the sunlight but its not transflective. its a good overall monitor but just need to be clean when you driving and the sun hit the screen for you to see. if its dirty good luck. but as i can see because i have one its a good screen.

what a waste of money... get a new higher brightness 500 nit range xenarc or dynamics and then also get the transflective upgrade.. don't waste the 300 bucks on that crap...
