double din in 01 crown vic

has anyone installed a full double din dvd unit in an 01 crown vic or similar? the opening is a 2 din, or very close, but there is a computer (i think) in the dash about half way back so it really doesnt fit .. what do i need to do? is it possible to get it in there or what is needed to relocate some things? a/c controls..etc?

just wondering if anyone has had this issue? thanks

i am doing the same thing on a 97 grand merc i want to put a slot loading dvd rom in place of the s/c control but i dont know where to put the a/c and i am doing 7 in touch screen in the radio 2din slot

joining in.... 01 CV, i molded my screen in the dash, before putting the screen there i had two ide dvd dl drives there (where the radio is/was). I plan to mounting the dvd drive in the glove box. as for moving hvac somewhere else check this for crown victoria, guy moved them lower.

Cant be done. 2003 is when Vics went to FULL double DIN. You have 1.5 din which sucks *** and cant accept those snazy Pioneer double DIN GPS units.

my vic is a 2004, so I have a full double din? So I can safely buy about any double din head unit I want?

Using a latop for main car PC, given that, some cool head unit ideas or recommended models would be cool.

I guess I will be watching movies on the laptop, so I just really need to jack into the stereo for better sound. If the laptop is not in the car, I still would like decent features. If the double din unit has a screen, it would need inputs so if I hook up a little carputer in the future it will work for that too.

Sorry, real new to all of this and just trying to explore my crown vic options.
