Just another update, I spoke with a 3m distributor today via email and he indicated that 3m part number RES4-4WR-CBL is a 24" 4wire extension cable for the touchscreen controller. So I am going to call reptron back up and see if they can get this part out to me. This will basically allow me to put the touchscreen controller anywhere I need.

Hey guys just wanted to let you know I got the cable ordered today, also I went through jaco electronics to get the part. I stated to them what we are looking at doing and they said they could beat reptrons prices I will have more numbers later on. The only difference with them is there is a minimum of a $100 order but even if this one done on a per person order basis you will most likely hit 100 dollars. I am having her send some price break downs on quantity orders so if we get at least some people together we could probably even get a deeper discount. I will post pricing later once I receive the list and keep you all updated on the progress.

In my research, i have spoken to the fine people at jaco and they priced me for a $95 usb controller ($79 for serial). Who did you talk to? Did they offer group discounts?

Do you know if they make this touchscreen to fit a 7" widescreen? If so would you mind posting the price and part numbers for the USB version.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Tom

OK quick update, took the silver bezel around the lcd off and the speaker out of the back (probably not 100% necessary) but everything fits. The top right corner is a little tight but all fits fine, now here is the really good news the usb version of this controller is self powered no need for external power. I found a very very good document going throug step by step on how to install a touchscreen on 3m

    http://www.3m.com/3MTouchSystems/dow.../19-250v22.pdf

Covers ever aspect, not sure about the conductive edges of this touchscreen with the metal edges of the lcd but I will soon find out..

    Ill keep you guys updated..

Alright, alright. Streetpower is right. I talked to the guy at Jaco and he quoted me about $13.00 less with standard whipping which should also save me some money. But no more discount unless i buy like 1000 units. So you will still all have to buy your own stuff. I will post info on how to contact Charles at Jaco (keep in mind that he is in texas and may need to refer you to a distributer closer to you). He has been very helpfull. I told him what reptron quoted me and his response was "I can beat that", always a good sign. Plus, HE called ME back! I have never really had that happen before when contacting distributers and telling them I am a lowley end user. I only have pricing info on the 5.7" overlay, USB controller, and cable; If you need a different interface or bigger screen give him a call. I will post his contact info as a soon as I get back to my apartment.

Its ordered! I called up Charles at Jaco to place my order and guess what.. no stock. Apperantly a company had purchased all 487 units two days prior. mother Fuc*#$s. SO I called the eaqually helpfull but more pricey Reptron electronics. I talked to Tammy, and she argeed to pricematch everything from Jaco. Wonderful. Plus she had stock on everyting but the extension cable, which will be about +3days behind the rest. I will let you all know when I get it all put together. Hey streetpower, hows your install comming? Any luck?

All of the part numbers are listed above (see my post above). Like I said, Tammy agreed to pricematch the laco pricing so the total was 129.14 with shipping. This price also includes a 24" extansion cable to run from the overlay to the controller.

    UPDATE ON TOUCH INSTALL PROGRESS

I finally got all my stuff in from Reptron (minus the extension cable) and got it all put into the screen. It all seems to fit ok. The only problems I am having is with the calibration software. The system recognises my touch when running normally, but wont recognise my touch when I try to calibrate... So i have to play with it for a while. I will have pics and everything up in a few days.
