Lilliput flickers very badly when cold...

    Hi all,

Just wondering if anybody else has seen this? When car is cold (I've seen the problem from 10 degrees and below) the screen flickers really badly... The touchscreen works fine, but I can't see what I'm doing... After 10 minutes or so everything is just fine.

It's really bad when I start, and then gets better - so obviously it's a temperature problem.

During the windows startup phase it doesn't flicker, only when windows has finished loading. Which leads me to think that it's maybe more likely to be a problem with my motherboard.

    Any ideas?

Testing: Not really my thing either...
Install: Guess around 60% Software takes soooo long....

Well, it could be either a problem with the monitor or your video signal, so you need to narrow it down first. Try to connect the cold monitor to another vga (clean) source if you can. Or you could bring the pc indoors to warm up, leave the monitor outside in the cold, and then connect them. Another thing to try is to connect the cold carpc to an external monitor to see if there is a flicker. If it is determined to be a video signal problem, then you can try another video card.

    thanks for the replies!

It's true I didn't do any testing before posting, guess I should have. I just thought I wouldn't be the only one having that problem.

Anyways I tried to connect my laptop to the screen today, with the very same cable in place and all --> No flickering at all...

At least it's not my screen then

So anybody had this kind of problem with the on board graphics card (Via Epia M10000G)?

I've got a VIA EPIA MII 1200 G Mini-ITX mobo and a Lilliput 629GL-70NP monitor. I had the same problem on cold mornings. Last night after booting up, the monitor started flickering again. So I hit the auto adjust button and wham-o, no more 800 X 600 at any refresh rate. It just shows a blue screen with the "Out of Range" message.

This thread describes the No 800 X 600 problem:
800x600 stopped working! Help Please! Ex-Audio TS LCD

I think maybe the cold temperature affects the output of the onboard S3 graphics. And it would seem that the Lilliput monitors are very sensitive to any deviation from standard resolutions and refresh rates.

So if you're Lilli is flickering in the cold, don't do an auto adjust.

Ok, think I figured out what was wrong!

Now I tried to put the resolution to 1200*800, and guess what the flickering stopped! I chose another frequency and the same resolution as before, and it seems to have stopped completely...

I'll leave it as is, and check tomorrow when it has cooled down to see if it's it!

Wierd enough, I don't see why it's only when it's cold this is a problem?

Anywho, I shall report back tomorrow!

    What were your results?

I'm having similar problems... though I'm now on my second board, which is a completely different video chip. I think the display is my problem.

Sorry for my lack of memory, I never reported back...

I haven't had a single problem since, I changed the resolution in my skin and no more problems...

I can't give you any explanation, the only difference I have from before is my icons on the desktop are REALLY small, but I never use them so I don't care. There's probably some way to solve this, but it never bothered me.

Try it out, seriously it's soo good when you get rid of that flickering

    Good luck!

I was having a problem very similar to this with my via board and shark TS - turns out it was neither the board or screen - it was my hard drive. I think what happened is that got knocked 'off balance' (if that's even possible - I'm just guessing here). A quick tap/bump on the case got everything back in line and working properly. I went back and adding some foam padding for both the case and the HD and haven't had hte problem since.
