Seems that going with a wide screen may make CF look stretched, so back to square one...... Use the original screen and make it stationary. How do I do that though?

Id love to hear if you manage to sucessfully turn your k90 into a stationary screen. I too am also starting to get jealous at how everyone's moulded screens look so nice compared to my k301, which sticks out too much.

If you still want to give it a go, you could first try to have the screen in the fliped out position, then cut power to it so that it stays that way. Then, you could desolder the wires feeding the motors so that your screen will stay that way upon power up/down. Also, there appears to be some sort of sensor which senses how fully extended the screen is. I think it is some type of resistive based mechanism, and it *may* need to be hacked somehow to trick the screen (or not). Once you have sucessfully managed to keep the screen in a stationary position and still be able to power it on/off normally, then maybe you could go about de-connecting the screen from the single DIN base, extending the wires, then securing everything to make it fit in dash as a single stationary unit.

Well today I looked at the screen.... i think there is promise. There is some kind of slide bracket that moves forward, once those brackets reach a certain point the gears turn on and raise the screen..... what caught my attention those is the ribbon.... it looks fairly long and there is only one to worry about. I see one sensor for the close position and assume there is one for the open posistion. I decided to use the "I am not ready to take apart my screen" method and took a sheet of paper and traced around the frame of the screen.... if i leave the buttons on the bottom of the screen it barely fits.... if I move the buttons then it will fit perfectly..... So Im praying that when i take the screen apart that it isnt some large piece all connected together, but seperate boards so i can move the buttons some place else. Usually I am not excited about doing these kinds of things (possably destroying a perfectly good monitor), but i have hope with this project. Today, i'll take apart the screen and take detailed photos.

usually flip out screns have pretty long ribbons cause they need to fold over themselves to retract & extend. I've remote mounted a screen on an alpine headunit, but never a lilli. should be similar. fiist step is to take it all apart & explore. unless you have a really good reason to use the screen you have though, your much better off selling yours & getting a screen that don't have all the complications of this, belive me, there will still be more than enough complicated aspects of the install, don't make it even harder by adding all this to it. I had no choice with the one I did cause at the time it was the only alpine touchscreen in existance when it first came out, you have options to not have to deal with that.

OMG turbocad, I am blessed by you coming here. You are such the ultimate modder. Well I currently have a K-90 head unit, which has the auto switching feature, I like this alot since I have the cam system set up. I also have 2 Lilliput 7" EBY701s' and would love to get a 3rd to replace the headunit.... The auto switching feature on the K-90 is keeping me from replacing it though. What do you think I can do for the auto switching..... Also do you do bezels? I saw your Infiniti and your friend's Altima and I was blown away.... You made them look so factory it isnt even funny. I was wondering if you can maybe do mine for a fee.

I do realize you want to keep the rear view camera thing, but I think there are other screens that do this, don't know which off hand really but if you dig a bit I think you can find one. without seeing the insides of one of these units it's hard to say weather it would be just a minor inconvenience to build with this screen or a major hassle, it might not be too impractical to use the screen you have, but at least some exploratory surgery to see what your up against would be a start.

when you come up with a definite plan put some pictures up of what you have in mind & I'll look at them, I'm pretty limited with the spare time I have to do fabrication for others, but I'll at least look at it & advise from there

i think the Xenerac has the auto switching, but I really wanted to have a lilliput. The EBY701 actually looks like something dodge would put in their trucks as a OEM unit...... I will go head and sacrafic the rear view... i will just have to do it manually for now. I will post pix so you can get an idea.....
