Man, great stuff HiJack. So simple, yet makes perfect sense. I like it.

Lol thats what happens when you refuse to buy a screen that you dont like, just for a feature. Yea it was easy, when it comes to mechanical Im pretty good, but circuit boards and microchips, Im not to good with. One thing I am glad about is that the relay is very very small.... I was expecting to have to use a big relay, which is about the size of a roll of quarters. Also I have trashed the remote idea, it does work, but its very sketchy, if the line of sight is blocked at all it wont work. So once my third screen gets here Im going to take it apart and soder the 2 wires to the board............

I have a question though..... by doing a hard line it would require 2 new lines to be installed, I currently have 1 line there. Is there a way to limit it to one wire.... other wise I would have to take apart my interior again to run the new addition. I tried doing it by grounding the 2 wires and have the signal wire run to the front, but it seems to work when it wants too.... I guess all the grounds are causing signal loss. Any ideas?

So i thought all night about how I was going to dreed having to run that second cable.... Then I started to think.... What if i simply used one cable on the 12V+ of the reverse light, and then put the relay behind the screen.... That way I can simply ground the negative behind the dash..... going to try when i get home.... hopefully it works...

Any pictures or diagram on how you have things wired and connected, especially to the lilliput's circuit board?

I've been toying with the idea of doing the same thing to my bluetooth GPS receiver. It doesn't auto-turn on, so I have to hold the button for 1-2 seconds when I want to turn it on. What i'd like to do use a relay that's triggered from the PSU to short the button for 1-2 seconds. The relay part is easy...but holding the circuit closed for 2 seconds is what I've run into a road block with. I also don't have much time to really dive in and research it as most of my time is consumed by my job...the rest by the family.

Awsome idea though on the auto-input switching based off the reverse light.

The EBY701 has a wierd board. When I connected the relay to it... all the buttons above the pc/av button turned into pc/av buttons, it was very anoying. So what I did is I took the IR LED off the remote, extended it with wires and stuck the LED in the case with the IR reciver in the monitor. There is one wire going from the reverse 12v wire to the micro relay. The ground of the micro relay goes to a ground point in the front. When I go in reverse the micro relay simulates a button push and switches to av1 (av2 is disabled), when I go forward it simulates another button press and switches back to PC. I guess I do not know enough about the board on the screen itself. Thats why I have the weirdness. The remote way worked fine for me, but I also happened to have extra remotes.

Thats why I used the remote..... it was easy to use a relay on that. It seems that when it holds in the button the remote doesnt do anything until released again. So basically when in park, drive etc, the relay is always pushing down, but when you go into reverse it lifts for a split second and then pushes again and switches the screen. Its the gap that technically switches the remote.

what if you turn on 701 while gear in reverse? That would make triggering other way around. I wonder if there more solid mods that can be done ? I understand what you did, actually I thought about that exact solution but it's not 100% bulletproof.

I have 701 myself and decided to get rear camera as well... Also, it's easy to tap to reverse light near camera, but it's pain to route that wire upfront. I wonder if AV signal might be enough for some relay?

If I drove a manual shift car, then I would worried about that, but I drive an automatic truck, and the way the ignition is made, it doesnt allow me to put the car into gear until I turn on the ACC igniton.
