EBY701 questions and opinions!!!!!!!!!

I do not get that screen to enter numbers, like most Lilliput people get. I simply get a list and change what I want. I do not know what a few features do though. At the bottom is picture were I point to what I do not know. Can some1 please clarify for me what these do?

What is BRCK CAR? What is the DEF SOURCE OPTION do?

Also, I now see that my EBY701 most likely does not have the auto switch feature, but it does have the option to turn off Video Source 2. I am assuming I will have to mod the screen to achieve this but I am not sure how to go about this. It is great that I can turn off Source 2, because it means that one button press will have to be achieved to switch back and fourth. So here is my question, I wanted to run 2 wires from PC/AV button and some how connect it to my reverse light so that when I go into reverse, it simulates a button press and switches to SOURCE 1, which has the camera. Then when I go back into drive, it simulates a button press and goes back into PC view. I am assuming that I will need some type of relay though, is this correct? Also what would be connecting to the PC/AV button to trigger the switch? Maybe a signal from the ground wire?

Anyways any options would be be greatly appreciated. Tell me if this sounds too ambitious. Thanx in advance.

PS: I have 3 EBY701s', there for I have 3 remotes. Can I do the same hack as listed above, so that I do not have to hack up my screen?

I'd be very interested in figuring this out as well. Seems like a simple circuit with a relay could do this, but I'm no Electrician. I'm sure there are some people on this Forum who could chime in with some ideas. Let us know if you getr anywhere with this

OK, will do.... Im sure this will make alot of people happy to be able to have auto switching. I am going to focus on the remote control hack option, I do not like the idea of hacking the screen and risking damage to it. Plus, who ever uses the remote?????????? I sure dont... and the buttons will still be usable to a certain point. Aslo I am sure that the same method can be applied to the screens its self. I think we have to figure out the relay setup first. The remote is easy, I first removed the keybad, which is held by glue. I then saw that the keypad has a metal plate for each button. I assumed that when pressed, the plate completes the circuit and thats what switches the screen. I tried it with a piece of wire and it works also. So now we have to come up with a relay so that when the car is put into reverse it clicks once completing the connection on the remote to change it, that seems easy, but how would you get the relay to click again when going back into drive? Remember when it clicks to go into reverse, the relay is getting power to click from the reverse light, but how would it click again when losing power. It would help if some1 with relay experience put in some thoughts.... anyone?

What if you mounted a micro switch in the path of your gearshift so on the way to "R", the switch would be hit. It would also be hit on the way back. I'm certain there's a way to make sure your shifter would hit the switch going both ways.

I'm certain there's a way to make sure your shifter would hit the switch going both ways.

Im actually playing with an idea.... on the remote, 2 wires come from on side and one comes from the other. I googled relays so I know how they work. A electrical charge forces a arm (similar to your switch you linked too) to bend towards the magnet field produced by the electricity, when power is lost a spring brings the arm back into correct posistion. So what I will do is mount the single wire to the arm, then one of the double wires will go on one side of the relay contact and one on the other side. When reverse is hit and the reverse light comes on, it will send power to the relay and it will bend simulating a button press and hold it there. When reverse is turned off the light will go out, cutting power to the relay and the arm will fall back into place striking the other side again simulating another button press, which will put it back into PC mode. Only thing that worries me is that by holding in the button on the remote, the battery will die within weeks since technically it is always being held in. Can someone correct me if im wrong about that? Is there a way to send power to the remote permanately? Also can the remote overheat? Maybe it has a auto shut off feature?

I think you may be confused about how that switch works.

The switch itself is a mechanical device. It would be engaged by physically being pushed to the "closed" position when your shifter moves into reverse. Then, when your shifter moves away from the position the switch will open up again. While the switch is in the closed position it sends current through 1 of the leads, then when it's in the open position it will send current to the other lead. It's actually commonly referred to as a "limit" switch as it's made to turn off/on something when opened or closed. Thus being a mechanical limit turned into an electrical impulse.

Using the limit switch you can achieve what you want I believe. If you can some how make the current coming from the limit switch go to a relay which only sends a single pulse, rather than a constant current, it would work just as you want.

Def source is default source, in other words, the mode it starts in.

BRCK CAR? Dunno, but if I had to guess it's brake car, indicating it may be a mode that requies the park brake to be on before you can watch video. Required by law in some countries.

But again, these are just guesses as my eby has a different menu (older).

It depends.... I relay is activated by getting power from some place else (the reverse light in this case) to move a arm to trigger another event. I want nothing were I have to mount a switch to be pushed.... i want the reverse light to trigger it.... Im going to go to radio shack and see if they have any.

I think your right...... that makes sence. The option does not seem to do anything... so somehow it must sence when there is movement?

Last night I played with a relay and my idea works... I was not able to get power to it because the relay was damaged. Im going to get a new one today!

I went to radio shack and picked up a micro relay. It was about $2.49. It is about as big as a jelly bean. I then wired it up according to the instructions on the back. I then put a fused regulator that feed 12Vs' at 2amps..... I then connected one end to my PSU and the other I left open.... Plugged in the PSU, touched the contact on the 12V+ side of the relay and it went to source 1, i then relased the contact on the 12V+ and the source went back to PC. So this idea will work, now anyoneeeeeeeeeeeeeee can have auto switching. Also this mod does not have to be done to the remote, it can be applied directly to the source button on the screen. I was just scared to play with my screen.
