Thread: How to set 800x480 under Windows XP

I cant figure out either..

could somebody please help?

I'we tried powerstrip.. made a custom setting ... then the powerstrip want's to restart, do update the system, or make sure the computer "likes" the resolution... .

no luck.. are we missing something obvious?

after the machine restarts, the resolution does not automatically change....you have to change it manually to get your resolution. I have only messed with it for a few minutes but it worked.

A problem I maybe have is that wherever I've install powerstrip the custom resolution button is greyed out.

Anyone know why this is. Everything would suggest that all features are enabled durring the evaluation period.

What i did was rightclick on the taskbar icon, go to display properties and configure. I have the hide resolutions not supported by monitor unchecked. Then click on advance timing options, uncheck the lock total geometry and resolutions, and i have realtime adjustment checked. Then just go and add the custom resolution.

Right click desktop

Display properties>settings>advance>adapter>list all modes...

It gives you listing of all display resolutions your card can support.

Officially, Microsoft XP will not support anything below 800*600 resolution.
There are two ways to do it. Hacking a registry or using Powerstrip 3.29 build Build 342 (Full Version). Second choice is safest and it works.

Hacking registry:

Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG\System\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\VIDEO\{23A77BF7-ED96-40EC-AF06-9B1F4867732A}\0000

On the bottom, you will see:
DefaultSettings.XResolution 0x00000320 (800)
DefaultSettings.YResolution 0x00000258 (600)

Double click values, input any decimal value you want, exit, and reboot the machine. Win XP will display that bubbly thing with a warning saying that you might have a problem with resolution settings. Just ignore it.

I never used it but people say it works. Just make sure you back up your precious registry!

XP Pro supports lower than 800 x 600 rez fine. I have set my Xenarc to the 800 x 480 rez without a problem, no warning screens etc.

After I set powerstrip it is now part of my resolutions set by windows. I constantly change between 1280 x 1024 on my 19 inch monitor to 800 x 480 on my Xenarc.

If it is too difficult to set then it must be hardware restraints. I have never tried by hacking in the registry.
