Double Din Touchscreen for Mazda 3 GT

I have a Mazda 3 GT and want to put a carputer in it. I'm trying to find a really good touchscreen lcd panel to fit in the double din slot for the Metra 95-7504 kit.

This guy: http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.ph...57.0;topicseen basically did what i want to do, however instead of a stand alone system I just want an lcd touchscreen there so i can put my own computer in it.

Anyone know of any lcd's that would fill that double din slot well?

I've been communicating with ByByte.com a lot recently to find a solution of putting a LCD in my Mazda3's dash. They can fit both the EBY701 and the Lilliput 629 in the Mazda3 Metra kit.

I purchased a Lilliput 629 installed into a Metra double-din kit for the Mazda3 from them. It's a 2008 LED backlit model. The way they install the screen into the frame feels pretty solid. The button panel is relocated inside of the kit, so they're not accessible when you install it in the dash, but that's not an issue since you can use the remote.

There was a problem with my touchscreen not being able to detect presses, even though the drivers/software would install and detect it. They were quick to respond to my email regarding the issue, and I've sent my unit back to get the touchscreen looked at. I'll let you know how it goes when I get it back.

I have a mazda3 too , and in the process or putting everything together, instead of the bybyte kit, I got the wrx bolt on aluminum kit mod to fit the xenarc to fit the metra double din kit. Fit very very good, but you have to cut the backside of the metra kit to make it fit , since the wrx is alittle bigger than the doubledin on the bazel. will post pic soon

I know it is somewhat off topic, but have any of you had issues with your Mazda 3? My nephew is looking at one for his first car.

Hey Pockets, I actually just purchased my Mazda 3 S recently. I've only had it for a week now, but I absolutely love it. It's a 2004 with 43k miles, but runs nice and smooth. And I'd recommend it to anyone, plus I have a nice sub and stereo system hooked up. Now all I need is a carputer! I've just gotten into the idea and it's been a dream of mine for hours now to have one. I'm just figuring out what to do also, computer wise. I've been researching, but I have a lot more to do. Should I get one to install in the dash or have an LCD separate? Last thing I want is some idiot to look in my car and see my system, break in and grab my expensive equipment. Would anyone recommend which I should do? I'd much appreciate it. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback, Kawdjer. I'm not sure what route he'll end up going, but I was trying to help him find a suitable car, and set it up on the less expensive side of things, where he would have a good, dependable car, that looks nice and that he'll care for.

I was thinking along the lines of a silver 4dr with black interior, automatic, and then taking a set of those 17" 5 spoke stock wheels, and having them powdercoated in black. Tint the windows, and help him put a stereo together for it. It would be clean, simple, stock, but eye-popping.

As to the computer, there are different folks with different thoughts. I'm still in the planning phase for mine, but I have a new Toyota Tundra that mine will be going into. I'm the type that I think I'll be best served with a separate screen (mounted in dash), and computer mounted either behind the screen, or underneath the massive center console.

Wow, that's a lot of extra add-ons to the car, but worth it in the end.
My car has had 2 owners, the last that I bought it from had a spoiler put on, windows tinted, and a amp/sub system put in. All professionally done, so it's really nice.

It's actually my first car, to be honest, I'm 18 now and my parents wanted me in a nice car, reliable, and with today's gas prices,
good gas mileage. So after searching a long time, the Mazda seemed to be the best deal out there, I get an average of 28 - 30 MPG combined highway and city, so it's a pretty sweet deal.

I've also been looking at it and figuring out the best way to install a carputer in it, I'm thinking the glove box would be the best place for the computer, since it has so much space, a Mac Mini would fit perfectly in there, just need to wire it and add in airflow.
After that, the screen... It'd be pretty sweet to have it on top of the dash, rather than in the dash like the CD player is now, but I suppose there's all different ways to do it, and many more expensive ideas then I can afford right now.
But I'm working full-time now and want to get my car payed off as soon as possible, then I'll get into the carputer stuff. Mine cost me around $14,000 after taxes and license, but I don't regret the purchase in the least. I'll definitely post pictures when I get into the carputer stuff!
