Just as the title says... Is it okay to tap into the car's unregulated 12v (cigarette lighter) to power the screen if the screen is using a LED backlight? All the threads i've read regarding powering the screen say use regulated 12v from a power supply to prevent blowing up the CCFL inverter. So is a LED backlight okay?

The only thing regarding power that the manual covers is this: "Power Source: DC12-24V", and "Power Consumption: 600mA(max)"
The screen in question is the Phylon 8" open frame from Logic Supply.
That is your answer then 12 - 24 is a large range.

Some come with a cigarette lighter adapter that has a regulator inline with the power connector. For the EBY701 I just cut the cigarette lighter plug off and wired it to the harness that I was using. The regulator kept it in a decent range but nothing like a computer psu. Sounds like you are fine though.
