    40*4 help needed

ok i did a search but could'nt find anything...
ok i have a 40*4 lcd and have wired it up.. when i apply power the 2nd and 4th line lights up with blocks is thins normal?
when i tried to test it with lcdprint it said it had detected the pannel but all that happend is that instead of displaying the text it went from displaying the 2nd and 4th lines of solid blocks to just displaying the 2nd line of solid blocks any ideas/suggestions?
i have rewired it twice just to make sure but it's still driving me crazy

displaying the first and third lines as blocks is normal, just a power on test type thing (display is getting power). for the other thing, check your wiring

Have you made a text file for the lcdprint?
Is it in the same folder as lcdprint?
    example:

    lcdprint 378 4 40 text.txt

howe about the contrast and backlight, did you adjust these / played with it?
