    Issues a plenty.. Maybe not..

I have gone thorough and documented this a little via PICS on my gallery site if you'd all care to have a look. What it comes down to is that I have the following hardware that I've tried to use as my display components, and I'm getting horrible resolution to the point that if I don't maximize the size of every font possible, nothing on the screen is readable.

I have tried the following two scenarios.

    1)
ATI Rage II with TV Out NTSC 4MB video Card
    ACCELE 5.6" LCD Monitor

    2)
On Board ATI Video with a SVGA to NTSC Converter
    ACCELE 5.6" LCD Monitor

You can see the pics of my problem by folloing this link. I don't wanna post all these pics in here as I don't wanna flood anyone with images.

Now, it looks to me like my problem is probably my display unit is just a piece. BUT, I am thinking that I should probably be getting better images than I am on my Sony 27" using the TV out on my card. So perhaps a change of both vid card and LCD are in order? Thoughts?

I was wondering if anyone had tried using one of these before and if they had any luck with it.

What's everyone seeing out there as the most bang for the buck on LCD displays. Honestly, I think $400 is just too much to be plopping into my car MP3 player. $200 seems affordable, but still a little expensive.

Secondly. What is everyone recommending for a good PCI card with NTSC composite or S-Video out on it?

Not sure about your first problem BUT to answer your second question...

You can't go wrong with ATI. I've used an ATI Radeon AIW PCI card in a past system and loved it. The DVD quality was top notch. Don't expect the text to be perfect using the composite out. It won't be. If you can find a display with S-video out (I haven't seen too many) you would get much better text readability.

    Just my 2 Cents...

for those rca input screens you are gonna get awful looking text on a lcd or 27 inch tv. Its just the way ntsc works same with pal pretty much. If you want clear crisp text you NEED a vga screen.

Now there are ways to make the text look better. In your display properties up your text size to very large and change your accessability options to like contrast? It pretty much makes your screen viewable by blind people. I'm on a linux machine right now so i can't walk through the steps.

SO again changing a video card and a screen to another rca input screen will not solve the problem. Only way to do it is get a vga screen.

What resolution are you trying to run at?

You should be at most 800x600.. suggested is 640x480

at high resolutions you drop pixels.. TV is 640x480 (cheaper tvs may be less)

To get things to look good on a standard television, I recomend High contrast.. ie black and white looks the best.

You can use colors, but you'll have to play around. as far as solids and reading regular fonts in menus etc.. I've found that black background with white text provides the best results.

On my old tele It didn't matter what you did, it was always wretched

Thing is, I've seen some of the outputs that other people are getting on their composite screens, and I'm thinking that perhaps the biggest problem is my LCD is crap, but also that the ATI card is just a little too old for what I'm trying to use it for. I too have always had good luck with ATI cards, but let's face it. This is a very old Rage II card with s-video and composite out. I'd like to go the VGA round, and I may have actually found a refurb IBM 12" with VGA inputs on it for $150 shipped, but a 12" display is just a bit big for my car...

So I guess I'll ask again. What cards with composite or s-video out are people having good luck with. Because as a start of improving my system, I'd like to find a better card. Needs to be PCI tho...

you can try like a vga to ntsc converter. You'd want one in like the 90-100 range though. Anything below that is garbage.

Ahhh... TVtool.. This is a utility that I had not yet seen before. I have a friend that is sending me an almost new ATI All-In-Wonder card that I'm gonna try out. If that doesn't work. I'm headed the nVidia route with this util I think. Thanks for that little bit of info. I'll have to look more at this util.
