    Dell Touch Monitor?

I've been reading around the forums and i have noticed that everyone uses lilliput or Xeneric LCD touch displays as their main dash display. I would rather use a Dell or Samsung touch screen or monitor. Does anyone know if these will work the same as a lilliput or Xeneric?

I would rather use a Dell 15 Inch Touch Screen Monitor than one of these brands. If I have no idea what I'm talking about please tell me as I have never done an install before but would like to soon.

That's because Lilliput and Xenarc make small (7") displays and Dell and Samsung don't. Also, they are 12 volt ready, simplifying the power issues and they also come with video inputs that automatically switch on for backup cameras.

If you want to put a monitor as large as a 15 inch in your dash, feel free to use a Dell.

So in order to use a Dell, i would have to convert to 12 volt? And is there a way to set up the LCD to automatically switch on for backup cameras?

The Xenarcs and Lilliputs that mp3car sells do that. They have a dedicated input circuit that detects when the reverse light is on, and that in turn tells the monitor to switch to the rear view camera channel (I have already seen that episode, it's a rerun).

On a Dell or Samsung monitor, it's unlikely to have such an input, but it is possible to rig it up for that effect. Do a search for a cheesebox.

Remaining tasks to facilitate vanputer installation codename "Enterprise":
    - Edit skin to liking.
    - Get compatible phone for mobilephone.net.
    - Facilitate HVAC control.

You can power it with an inverter if you want.

To switch to video input, your monitor either need to accept video as an input or you need to convert the video from the camera into something that the monitor can display. Then, you need to hack the monitor to switch when that signal is needed and unswitch when it isn't. You'll need a relay for that.

The Xenarcs don't have to be hooked up to the reverse light. Mine switches over whenever it detects a video signal on the video line. Just hook the backup camera to the reverse light as a power source and it will automatically switch over when the camera comes on.

I think you can see why many people stick with Xenarc and Lilliput, don't you agree?

You mean on the Xenarc? It automatically switches back when the signal disappears.
