Broken ribbon slot on eby701 lilli

I was putting the ribbon cable for the video signal back into the monitor after taking it all apart and when i pushed the cable in the brown brown slot the white cover thing broke off and doesnt seem to be going back in. The cable will not really stay in there. I have taped it in there for now while im setting things up but it wont hold as a permanent solution. Is my only option to glue it? Can I order one of those little white pieces?

a quick reliable solution is to use use double sided tape to hold the ribbon cable; stick it closest to the connector width-wise, it should do the trick for a very long time if the mating surfaces are cleaned with alcohol.
I've got a flat panel mounted on my passenger door with the same broken tab issue, the door has been opened & closed a couple hundred times or so, and it still has good contact.

Alright thanks. I tried the scotch double sided tape and that didnt seem strong enough i'll have to pick up some of the real stuff.

Errr, double sided tape didnt work. I can never get the ribbon to stay in the working position. I just tried super glue and I had to remove it before it set. I might just have to get a new screen.

Can you take a picture of what broke off? Is it just the plastic clamp that goes into the connector, or did the electrical connections on the connector break off? The plastic clamp only wedges the cable in, so you might be able to thicken up the cable's backside with a piece of plastic to wedge into the brown connector (maybe some of that bubble packaging off most products - that stuff that requires shears or a sharp knife to open)?

You certainly shouldn't have to get a new screen. Worst case, you should be able to find a replacement connector and rework the connector onto the board. You may need help from someone experienced with soldering, but the surface mount soldering tutorials at SparkFun are really good: http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/tutorials.php

Its just the plastic clamp. I don't know where to get a new one. Cool link though.

It's too bad you aren't down here in Tucson AZ, I could solder a new connector on for you. I suggest like cMags said, that you just find something you can use as a "wedge" and slide in with the cable to help clamp it in place (it is pressure fit, to make the electrical contact), and then use tape (GOOD quality double sided tape should hold the cable flat against the board) so it doesn't move.

I'm sure it can be fixed though, or "rigged" so you won't have to buy a new screen. Don't give up on it.

I hope you didn't get super glue onto the contacts though, or you'll need to clean it off either by scraping it with a sharp knife, being careful not to damage the contacts, or with a chemical cleaner designed to dissolve the glue.

Another option for holding the cable down so it doesn't move and pull out of the connector, is hot glue. Get a hot glue gun and lay a small bead down a little bit away from the connector, lay the cable into it and hold it, then put a thin layer of hot glue over the top and overlap the edges onto the board.

Well, double sided tape was too thick and it pushed the contacts away from the board I don't think it would even work with a wedge in place. I did get a little glue on the ribbon cable but im pretty sure it is from when I pulled it out as I didnt put the glue under it until it was in place. I just sanded it off the bottom with some higher grit sand paper and it seems to be fine again. I'll try to find something I can use for a wedge when I get off work.

You have to use heavy duty double sided tape..... its like double sided but is thick like a foam..... Used this to hold a 1 pound metal plate to my roof while I epoxied it and it works great, there is no way it will move. I also used this tape to hold my soundcard into place and it hasnt moved once.

PS: I see you tried already...... what happended to the original black cloth like tape that was originally holding it on? Mine has that...

The black cloth tape is on the controller side and is still attached along with the connections on that side. I am talking about the LCD side. I have the kind of tape you are describing and because it is so thick it is pushing the ribbon cable away from the contacts.
