    Thanks!

I only use the screen purely for the Screen/Touchscreen purposes. I can not comment on the radio or DVD functions as I have not tried it out yet. This monitor replaces my old DWW-700M which I was using since it first came out.

My Car/System Specs are as follows:
2005 RSX Type S w/ Type R header and stock muffler...pretty much stock "loudness"
    Intel D945GCLF2
    Soundblaster External
    Seagate Momentus G-FORCE 320GB

Touchscreen: Does not disconnect at random. There is a lag time from when windows boots up when the touchscreen is useable (about 5-10 seconds). This is booting from hibernation.

    Long Startup Time:
No issues here. The Xenarc splash screen shows up for about a few seconds and it right away goes directly to the VGA video input. There's plenty of time between the splash screen and windows finishes going out of hibernation.

Screen Internal Fan: I can't hear it over the general car noise at idle. If i turn off the engine, I can hear a soft whine in the dash and in the trunk (where my carputer sits). It's not loud or annoying at all.

Gear Noises:Nothing out of the ordinary for a indash screen. My old DWW-700M was much louder.

On a side note I was able to run the screen in 800X480 using the Intel Integrated Graphics drivers and PowerStrip.

Overall I give the screen a solid 7.5/10 because of the quirks with touchscreen boot up lag.
Funkmobile, yours, Avwuff's and anyone else's comments who actually already own the XENARC MDT-X7000 are really, really precious, specially in these times of penny-pinching! Would really appreciate if you'd the DvD player and overall sound quality a test run and let us know. As I initially mentioned to Avwuff, I'm serious about getting this. And quite frankly, now is the best time when the wife's not looking!

    Thanks once again!

    Hi Funkmobile,

I'm glad you liked it. Xenarc have exchanged my screen and are sending it back, so I will give it a try when it arrives. Maybe they've fixed some of the issues. But I wanted to clarify anyway:

    • Touchscreen: It only started disconnecting at random later on. But it would also take a long time to connect, sometimes 20 seconds, and if you touch the screen at any time during the bootup process, it takes even longer.
    • Startup time was at least a minute on mine, with the computer already running. If they've improved it, great!
    • The fan is loud enough that I could hear it over the engine. I don't understand what it's for -- my Pioneer deck doesn't have a fan, and my new Lilliput screen doesn't have one either. If these components can run without a fan, why can't the Xenarc?
    • Gear noises: I'm not referring to the normal whirr of the screen going in or out, that's fine. My screen specifically make these "CLICK CLICK CLICK" noises (sounded like a ratchet) of the gears slipping. It didn't do this when it was new, but it got worse as time went on.

I'm glad you like the unit. I thought it was the bees knees until the problems piled up

    Cheers,

well, i bought it off ebay for $$675 so we'll see whether it's a v1 or v2 but probably v1 at that price... probably have to re ebay it if it doesn't work out. and i don't mind playing dvd's and cd's and everything with the computer's own software anyway. i just needed one mounted in dash.

ok, not to completely discount you because obviously i don't know what you're dealing with but... are you sure yours isn't just broken??

i just watched mp3car's review and they make it sound pretty solid and the times it was taking to do things seemed quick and painless to me...

    hi TallgeeseIV,
Do you have any problem to your MDT-X7000?
I did buy one from eBay but not pay the payment yet.
    thanks.

I'll test the DVD player/ROM when I got some time to burn (which isn't much these days). I will not be testing the built in radio/amp as I am using a separate pioneer deck to handle the audio. As for problems stacking up later...if you don't see me replying to this thread, you can assume it's working the same as i got it

Haha... yeah... all the same problems. I'm already designing a new setup and trying to think of a new approach. This unit is garbage. It's a crime that they get away with robbery like this.

man... I think that's the final nail in deciding against the purchase of this one... sad.

Well I have returned my unit 3 times in the last year(my fourth is on the way)! It is garbage. I had to install amps because the internal amp quality was garbage. There is no control for the amp, which is normal for decks that were made in the 90's. Each time I have returned it was because the gears would just grind and not eject without assistance.
The only plus is that the dvd ports directly to the computer so you can watch a dvd through your computer or cd. I am seriously considering getting another deck to handle the audio because the sound is still below my expectations.

Every time I contact these people they act like I am bothering them. I have pumped them for as much info as possible and they basically said that they understand the problem. When I asked them if they were going to upgrade the units to fix this problem and they said they had no plans to. They did do an update at the beginning of the year. The updates did change the gear system from my observations. It did sound quieter and smoother but still broke in a couple of months.

I asked them about a lemon policy and they just said that they would continue to "help" me out with the problem after the warranty ends. They better keep fixing this stupid thing. The main problem is I have to pay $10 to ship this thing to them every time it breaks. I could rant for longer but this is the pertinent information.

Wow, so true. Every time I call, I get some sullen guy who sounds like I just interrupted his Solitaire. He helps me, but it feels like I'm keeping him from something more important and he just wants to get me off the phone.

Well to be fair, almost everyone on these forums advises AGAINST motorized units. In every motorized unit regardless of manufacturer the gears usually fail first and usually by grinding.

You should be thankful they are helping you at all since usually you are just **** out of luck.

I understand your point, but 3 failures in one year is less than acceptable.
