All Mazda 6 Owners: Stupid LED Display

I'm in the planning stages of a carPC for my 2006 Mazda 6. I plan on putting the screen in the map box up top like everyone has, either with the holy grail, or a homemade device. But I hate the idea of the stupid LED display below the map box. With a carPC, it's useless. There's nothing on that my carPC won't show or do. So I'd like to eliminate it altogether. Has anyone else done this? If so, what did you put it it's place?

Well, I have a auto map pocket with a New transflective in it. I would not think of removing the stock LCD because I would loose me temperature reading from the climate control. I also use the PC for bigger journeys and not small 10 minute trips to work. You will also loose the radio display and I doubt that you will have a descent radio with the carpc.
In any case it is up to you to decide.
If you decide to remove it maybe you can fit a PC DVD player in there

What do you mean by an auto map pocket? Is that that "stock" navigation screen mount?

In any case it is up to you to decide.

I plan on implementing climate control in the PC, as well as the radio (probably an HD receiver with USB interface). These will probably be done after the PC is installed, so I will use the LED display for some time. But eventually I won't need it at all.

Great idea! But I also plan on switching out the stock CD player with a CD/DVD burner, modding it to fit in the same location.

What I'd really like to do is create my own display mount that takes up the space of the map box AND the LED display. Just wondering if anyone has done the same.

I managed to get a version without the screen and I fitted my own transflective screen in there. I also made my own electronic board that controls that auto up-down mechanism.
