You're searching for the holy grail man... as of yet no one's found one.
Does one exist?
Why not? ;-(
It seems to me that the in-dash solution is the nicest, and VGA (or other non NTSC inputs) are a necessity.
All the various pieces are out there, but not in one package! (And I'm not counting the insanely overpriced and strange Pioneer / Clarion stuff)
I personally know three other people that would buy one today!!

It exist. One of the video monitor option on a Q-PC system is an 6.4" indash motorized touch VGA monitor. I saw it at the CES last year. They won't tell me anything about it like price, who makes it, brightness. The site doesnt say anything about it either. I saw the video quality of it and it is VGA not composit LCD screen.
Build one yourself If you have the money and a little extra time. It would be easy if you find someone selling a non working In dash lcd for cheap. Im going to try it sometime in the summer.
That is a very BIG if.Originally posted by Dexter172

I've been tring (like a lot of other people) for a long time now to find such a thing...

hmmmmm.. now this is just kind of a guestimation here... but..
So, on the moterized deals There is the lcd, in its own little case that slides out of a box.....
So... Say you take a 5" moterized lcd... they are cheap... might the case accomodate a 7" lcd? I mean, what if on the part that slides out there is 1" of extra space on each corner... Surely not all have extra space.. but Im sure a few do...
You would have to buy a new front bezel.. but if you bought a 7" lcd, it would come with its own bezel...
Soooo... what about looking on ebay for a 7" vga lcd in the
"lcds 15" and smaller" section, and then mounting it in your moterized 5" lcd case......
Then sell the working 5" lcd
You could always fiber glass around the frame. Why not try to build one if someone have a diagram of how one of the indash lcds work.
Building a manual one is pretty easy.
I could knock up a motorised version with Lego prettty easily, but it's making that in miniture to fit the dash.
Ive taken apart an Alpine in dash unit and to be fair, unless you have access to some pretty hi spec machinery, you are not going to be able to fabricate one yourself.
Off the shelf parts and hacking is the way to go.

Yes... before I gave up on building a motorized lcd I was thinking:
there are thousands of small, moterized products, there has got to be something that can be easily adapted to our pop-out-lcd needs.
For a while I was thinking about co-opting a cd-rom
The tray is large enough to accomodate a rather small lcd, it is moterized. It only would move the lcd horizontally, but one could add a hinge and gravety would pull the trey down....
but the cd-rom case wouldnt accomodate anything very thick, and the lcd would have to be very small...
So then I was thinking of using a 3 cd changer...
but its too big, and I gave up on finding just the right one...
Other ideas:
-some moterized camera item.. like a tripod that could raise the lcd out of the floor console.
-using existing car parts to build something, those power window moters can be had cheap, and they would be strong enough to raise an lcd.
There has *got* to be some moterized product out there that could be easily modified to be a moterized lcd... say... something a few years old, on ebay for cheap cause its not a hot new product anymore... help guys, take a minute to think on this one.
Man, if someone here would sell a kit to make a LCD motorized we could all buy bare units off ebay, and then moterize them....
