What software is used for these? No other chip needed right, just streight wiring from the LCD to the parallel port?

I posted this last week. Seller is great. I got mine within 5 days. I got 2 for $33.00. I just need to hook one up.

BTW: These are super cheap, they sell for $100+ from noritake.

Well y'all conned me into buying one. I just hope I can get it wired up and running! Is there a actual parallel cable that connects right up to the pins or do you have to connect the pins yourself?

ODYSSEY, how did those 2x40s work out for you guys? Did you ever get them to work? IIRC the serial connection is not RS-232 which is why i had come up with an adapter, but i have since sold my VFD, which the buyer promptly knocked off his desk, and cracked it.

I bought a couple of the ones that are on eBay, look like they should work good.

I'm tempted.. he says "optional optical filter" I'd probably see if i can get a red filter so it could be white.

I don't know if i really have much use for it though.

Anyone have any info on hotwater's question?

Is there any cable that hooks into this, ie one of those old AT cables that went to the motherboard to the case, the serial, parallel ports... (bad explanation but you get what I mean)

Taken from page 4 of the [H]ardforum thread
To build a interface from parallel port on PC to Noritake graphical VFD, use the following diagram:

    Parallel port VFD Signal
    ------------- --- ------
    1 -- 17 Strobe
    2 -- 15 Data0
    3 -- 13 Data1
    4 -- 11 Data2
    5 -- 9 Data3
    6 -- 7 Data4
    7 -- 5 Data5
    8 -- 3 Data6
    9 -- 1 Data7
    10-13 -- NC
    14 -- 21 Auto Feed
    15,16 -- NC
    17 -- 19 Select In
    18-25 -- 2,4,6,8,..24 GND
    23 GND

You also need to make the following connections on CN2:
    1 - +5V
    2 - NC
    3 - GND
Hard to get formating correct heres the link again to schematic
Also I looked at LiquidMP3 and they now support this VFD

    Cant wait to get mine.
Planning on making a plexiglass stand similar to This and hacking a USB Keyboard to make 8 buttons (4 on each side of the LCD ) to control Zhender or LiquidMP3 plugin
