yeah.. I guess it wouldn't be ideal for a carpc - I'll play with it..
I was actually thinking of using it as a secondary monitor / remote control for my HTPC.

OT but never hurts to ask.. Is there any way to make the new Lilliput 629 (asymmetric bezel) to work correctly with Intel GPU (D945GCLF2 Atom), i.e. native 800x480? I wasted a few days trying and no luck..

    Thanks!

Also, I suppose it could be used as a primary display, you just won't get any video on it until Windows boots up. You won't see the BIOS POST screen, and maybe not the Windows loading screen either. This might be a problem if there's a problem booting, or a BSOD. But day-to-day operation should be okay, I would think.

It is not pointless to buy a 7" monitor that isn't touchscreen. For one, it would be useful as a second monitor for the back seat to watch movies. Second, you can buy touchscreen kits for $40, and convert any 7" monitor to a touchscreen.

Max, let us know how the testing goes!

the review stated that full screen video playback was fine. don't forget, it's only 800x480. on the bright side, no more resolution problems huh? I'm considering getting the touchscreen version just as a secondary display for my desktop. would be useful to do UI testing for my front-end during development.

yea video playback will be fine. Touch screen can be added, or they make a touchscreen model. Quality is higher then other touch screens on the market of this size.

There is no problem using at primary screen..

the bios thing would be a issue, but how often do i need to do that, if i need it ill grab one of my lcd's in my room and temp hook it up

Saw some pics of this little thing cloning the screen, (so it looked like the main screen) looked amazing. I just hope it can be used as a primary display so videos will play to it, instead of just on the normal monitor port. We won't really know until we see someone play a video on it. Gotta say though, this thing is definately the next thing I am buying if it can do video.

I've preordered two. One with touchscreen, and one without. I'll be sure to post reviews when I receive them (looks like somewhere towards the end of Dec.).

I hope it uses the video card hardware but wraps it in a USB driver. If so, it seems that it would be great for a car-pc. While I'm dreaming - lets cross our fingers for some transflective action - or some other technology that cuts glare ! !

I doubt it uses the video card hardly at all. Technically, I dont think you would need a video card. This is basically a software setup for a video card and monitor built in one.

Think after dvd decoder cards became obsolete. It will draw alittle bit of memory and processing power from the computer itself. It states in the reveiw that it take 50 to 75 megs of memory per screen.

I am going to get the cheapest one at the start of the new year, to tax time if work dosen't pick up too much.

I want to try it without touch screen. As much as I would like it, I find it alot easier to use a keyboard and mouse. So no touch shouldn't bother me too much. I'm really excited to see this work. Hopefully someone here will post a video of smooth video from a less the badass computer so I can guess at how it would work with my old 533mhz computer.
Progress,.... that is what I keep forgetting ;)
