    Xenarc 706TSA No Display

    Everyday I struggled with getting the display to show every morning. My car is garage kept and stays above 60 degrees, so being cold is not an issue.

    The control panel lights up blue and the power button red. I press the power button and it turns blue (for on) and nothing on the display. Usually the OSD is showing the input and then the "No Input" text screen saver after 5 sec (my OSD timeout setting).

    I'm using the supplied car cigarette lighter adapter for now. I was unplugging it and plugging it back in and worked fine. Now it will not.

    Any ideas?

    Same problem

    I have the 706TSA and I have been having the same issue. Sometimes when I press the power button it changes from red to blue as though it has turned on but the LCD panel itself does not come on and I know the computer is supplying a signal. Once it starts doing this it can be very hard to get the display to turn back on again and often I will have to power cycle the display several times and disconnect and reconnect everything and then mess around with it some more for a while and eventually if I'm lucky it will come back to life. I have tried different power supplies and different interconnect cables from the input box to the monitor (I have the one that comes with the display as well as the longer 5M cable) but the problem persists. Were you ever able to resolve this? Looks like I will be contacting Xenarc soon...

    Possible solution (at least on my cpu)

    My problem was due to my motherboard not "sending" the correct signal to the monitor. My motherboard has two video outputs, onboard VGA and DVI through a cable attached to the board. I was using the DVI output, but had the bios set to "VGA+LCD", instead of DVI. Once I figured this out, I corrected the setting to "DVI" only, but after a couple days my bios was resetting back to "VGA". So In the long run I just went with the VGA connection.

    Hope this helps your issue. It seems no one uses this monitor on this site.

    The good thing about Xenarc is that they will issue an RMA right away without troubleshooting. I emailed them for support, but no suggestions. They just wanted me to send it back. I was determined not to.

    Careful if you open the monitor and void the warranty.

    Rodwed had the same issue with his monitor and basically has no way to turn it on now - so beware...

    Hmmm ... this doesn't create a very good impression of Xenarc for me. I know these LCDs in general have issues from time to time, but I'm leaning towards Lilliput at the moment.

    Interesting thread.

    Dan, I think you mentoned my name in vain. This sounds like a common fault. This morning out of the blue this morning I got an email from Xenarc that said:

    Sorry about the delay due to the holidays. I have just returned from a long trip and I am not sure if your e-mail has been answered by another associate. We apologize that you are having issue with your unit. It is possible that the input box is bad. If that is the case, then the unit will still be under warranty. Also, we would usually cover a product under warranty even if it’s opened up if a problem is reported to us within 30days: http://www.xenarc.com/faq.html#QA12

    Since you are in Australia, it is hard to make sure whether it is the monitor or the input box that is at fault. How about this, if you ship both the monitor and input box back to us, we will pay for shipping back to you if the input box is defective. And we’ll just charge you shipping back to you if the monitor is indeed bad since it has been over 30 days. I’ll waive the repair cost for you this time.

    Needless to say, the monitor is in the mail back to Xenarc today for a warranty claim. Maybe you guys should be getting on to Xenarc. Not sure on the consumer protection law is in your country but down here goods must be of merchantable qualiity and fit for the purpose it was intended. I relied on Xenarc's comment that this was "Automotive Grade". Huh! However Jimmy's email was out of the blue, I had not been back in touch with them. Sound like a nice phone call to Jimmy might yield a result for you guys.

    I will post up the other thread for reference that Dan is picking stuff up about my problem.

    Just another update on this. Got an email from Xenarc this morning stating it was the input box, not the monitor that had failed and therefore it was still covered under warranty. The monitor is on its way back to me from the US.

    I asked them this question:
    It seems that mine was quite an early build judging by the serial number, I am aware of at least 4 other monitors that have had the same symptoms, one of which had a serial number 4 less than mine. I bought Xenarc because everybody said it was the best but I am concerned this may happen again. I am wondering if there was a design or component fault that is at the cause of this and if so, has the matter been rectified now?
    And I received this in reply:

    Hi Rod,

    We have sold many of these units and we haven’t had that many units came back to us yet. To reduce turnaround time, we just exchanged your board with one from our latest batch. We will then have our engineers overseas take a closer look at the defective boards. Unlike other manufacturers that try to save cost by using cheap components, our company use higher grade components that are more expensive. For example, we use solid capacitors instead of the traditional Liquid Capacitors. Solid capacitors are more durable. So I also would like to find out which component failed.

    Anyway, based on my experience, if your monitor has died, it is probably worth sending it back for repair as if it is the input box, you won't have opened it and the repair will be under warranty.

    They have given me good service as the only cost to me was the freight back to Xenarc as they are covering the return freight to me in Australia which is pretty decent of them.

    I can't wait to get the monitor back into my rig so I can have the Car PC up and running again...

    Add 2 more monitors to this thread with the same problem. Start the truck in the morning, monitor does not come on. My first one worked for about 1 day, give or take a bit.... The warranty replacement worked for about a week before displaying the same symptoms.

    For a while, you can get by wiggling/disconnecting/reconnecting the power cable to the input box. Then that doesn't work. I'm using the dedicated 12v reg. Out on the OPUS 360. Power is clean and sufficient.

    The OP's problem is different, his monitor powered up, displaying no signal. Mine (and by the sounds of it the rest) will not even get that far, but i'll bet your touchscreen overlay still still works even though you have no display.

    1 - PC sees a valid monitor - wouldn't boot if it didn't.

    2 - Problem occurs more noticeably when vehicle has sat for a while, regardless of temperature.

    3 - Problem occurs more and more frequently, until there is just no love whatsoever.

    4 - Have tried a new power connector, tried both VGA and DVI, and have ensured signal from PC is functional.

    5 - Touchscreen overlay still works, regardless of lack of display.

    Xenarc was VERY quick to set up an RMA and exchange it for a different one. Kudos for that by the way. But, how many times do we have to ship these back just to get a functional unit - especially when from outside the US?

    It happened again

    I am sorry to say that my last "resolution" was not the actual problem at hand. It seems that 2 months ago the problem started again, but this time the monitor did not come back on and the touchscreen did not respond.

    I sent it back to Xenarc (1 year warranty through them if unopened) by UPS Ground ($20) because they advised me of sending everything back so they can test it properly (basically try to find a reason to blame the consumer). They turned around and stated the issue is with the input box having a bad control board. They replaced the board and sent it back, but beware it takes at least a week to get it back. I am expecting mine today and they shipped it out on Wednesday of last week.

    We shall see how it works.
