Single Din touch screen advice

Hello Everyone,

Been reading a lot the last couple weeks to start getting into my build.

I have decided on most of the parts.

M4-atx is on order
Intel Mini-iTX D945GCLF2 will be ordered later tonight, i believe this is a pretty good board
have 1gb ram (might get a 2gb stick instead)

anyway, what im having trouble with is the screen.

I have a 2000 model WRX (last of the classic shape) and am trying to work out where to put the screen.

Now i could go a double din 7" but the screen is to low down then, i could do single din 7" in the stock spot but that will block controls when it is out.

so what i was thinking was to get a single din gauge holder for the dash and mount the screen in there. like this https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/p...roducts_id=826
and mounting a 7" single din screen in there.

Now my questions are

1. what is a good single din screen to get? the only one i can see in the mp3car shop is the xenarc 700IDT (about to read some reviews)
2. Are there any transflective screens that are single din? (i hope so)
3. any other thoughts/suggestions?

I use the 700 IDT in a 2001 Corvette. I put it just below the stock head unit and when its open, it does block the radio controls, but I only use the volume knob there. Everything else is run from the screen anyway.

That guage pod looks cool :-) Its gonna be a big square right in the middle of your windshield though when the screen is open.

The 700 IDT is a great screen in everything but sunlight readability. Its pretty bad there (yes I have the high brightness model). Aside from that, I like it.

The gauge pod sits mostly in the dash so it wont be to high into the windscreen, it will be a good spot for visibility of the screen, the only thing i am concerned about is the sunlight readability, which is why i was looking for a transflective single din.

hmmm, i dunno what to do

The 700IDT is about the most reliable flip-out screen, primarily because it's not motorized. All of the motorized models have quality issues.
Some users are content with the K301 model. There seem to be fewer users displeased with that model than other motorized units. It might be worth looking into.

I suggest going for an OEM look if at all possible. There's no moving parts to break. No screen to get stuck. And it will look far better than any motorized unit. In my mind, they are all ugly as sin.

There's no such thing as a transreflective that is motorized. But if you are interested, I am selling a k301 that Ive done a brightness enhancement modification on using special 3m vikuiti films. It really does help with sunlight readability, but probably not to the same extent as a true transreflective. Even if you dont buy from me, the k301 is probably the only motorized screen I would consider. The $700 xenarc one also looks promising if it were not for all the bug reports.

Doesnt have to be motorized, i was just thinking single din pop out might be easier to get mounted in my car, have come up with a couple other ideas that i can check out, might be able to move some parts around and use some stock mounting points.

But if it comes to it i might check with you about the screen if i still want to go that route and u still have it.
