as far as i know, you'll need to solder your own connection on to it. this connection should work, provided the lcd is based on an HD44780 controller.

I have bought an HD44780 LCD Character Display, however when i recieved it it only come as the display, no cables etc.
Here are a few details.

Full datasheet available http://www.optrex.com/SiteImages/Par...C/16230dze.PDF
There is a white bit in the bottom right hand corner of the unit that has 14 pins poking out and looks as if this is where the connection should be made. I need to connect it to my PC. What cable will i need to buy???

Thanks for your help.
Since posting the message i have found out that i will have to solder the connection to the display. There should be 16 holes/pins on the back, number 1-16 where the wires need to be solder to. Now i cannot find the holes!!!
Any suggestions?

The 14 pins you mention in your first post provide the connection to the LCD controller. The other two pins you mention seeing you your schematic (15 & 16) are for the backlight, if you have one. The backlight may have its own wires, or just solder pads on the board.
The 14 pins i mentioned in the first post actually stick out of the board about half an inch, little metal pins like something should fit into it, like with port on the back of a PC . Someone else told me that the pins that i need little holes on the board then solder a printer cable to it?????
Do u think the metal pins sticking out are the ones i need? Check out the picture of my display........ see the white bit in the bottom right hand corner..... thats where the 14 pins stick out.....

I had holes on my 4x20, check on the pcb for a straight line of 14 holes with text on both sides 1..............14
I would assume that the 14 header pins sticking out on the side are the ones for the LCD controller, and that you will either need to find a suitable connector, or solder directly to the pins.
If the LCD is backlit, I would say the 2 solder pads on the side of the LCD screen are your power connections for the backlight.
(I just went through the process of hooking up some Character LCD's for some projects I'm working on)
