FOR THOSE WHO HAVE A SCREEN THAT WANT TO USE AS A TOUCHSCREEN FOR PC USAGE, THAT HAS NO USB CONNECTION.
THIS IS A SIMPLE $50 FIX FOR THOSE:
*WHO OWN A CAR STEREO THAT IS TOUCHSCREEN EQUIPPED FOR THE STEREO ONLY (AVIC SERIES OTHERS ALIKE)
* WHO OWN A MONITOR THAT HAS NO TOUCH FUNCTIONS AND ONLY HAS RCA INPUTS (MOST HEADREST MONITOR)
THIS IS A USB CONTROLLED $40 TOUCHSCREEN CONVERSION KIT 7", THEY MAKE ANY SIZE OVERLAY DESIRED, JUST CHECK EBAY, SIMPLY REMOVE OLD TOUCH PANEL AND REPLACE. THE OVERRLAY IS IN FRONT OF THE LCD PANEL.. IT'S A SEPERATE UNIT.
HERE IS THE CONNECTION PINS TO CONVERT S-VIDEO TO RCA. SIMPLY CUT OLD S-VIDEO CORD AND WIRE AS SEEN IN THIS DIAGRAM, USING A DISC CAPACITOR NEAR OR AROUND THE pF it suggests.
any questions feel free.

This is something i been thinking of doing for my dual monitor setup; right now i can setup MPC to play a movie then move it (using windows extended desktop) to the back for the kids to watch. I want them to be able to control MPC at will from the back also.
I thought it was as simple as getting a touch overlay (as you discribed) with a USB controller and intall it to one of the monitors in the back. Since the touchkit driver supports multiple monitors, i didn't think there would be a problem with a second USB controller.
I guess my question is, what does S-video/RCA inputs have to do with it?
I'm sure i'm missing something!
P.S. (looking at your AVATAR) I'll put my 302 V8 up against anything you have - except a Mustang, but wait - that's a Ford too!.![]()
well the rca and s-video is for those that bought the screens without the vga nothing to do with the touchscreen function. So you can use headrest monitor in back for touchscreens also. I was browsing the new threads and seen many people confuse the difference from s-video and RCA so I thought I would clear up the confusion. This will allow people to buy a set of headrest monitor on ebay for 75 and for another 80 (2 overlay's) have 2 more 7" touch panels in rear.. the connection for s-video is soley for those whom don't want to spend 300-500 on VGA touchscreens so this shows how to convert the standard RCA composite video to connect to the laptop with s-video with virtually no money. The disc capacitor in diagram can vary as it's soley for the flicker if mind serves right correctly.. and are very common in any electronic device so anything broken around in garage or attic can be used to get it. I run my front lilitput VGA as it's super sharp but the other tv's are all RCA with the touch overlay so anyone can scroll or change the screens. This thread is 2 problems solved..
1. I never seen any RCA or S-video type monitors with touch function, unless there the Car DVD players with input for video but no control for PC. Some Poeple bought car monitor with touch panels that have no VGA input only RCA like the AVIC or whatever Stereo's but the touch panel only works for the radio there's no usb control to connect to PC
So now they can remove the touch panel assembly and replace with one thats USB put the original stereo back together and then they have a USB controlled touch panel to connect to PC on there AVIC or similar stereo's or headrest. Hope this Helps

Im cheap.. I don't see the sense in buying multiple touchscreens. I found 2 headrest on ebay for 75 and another 80 for the overlays and created 2 7" monitors for the 1/2 price of 1. 7" lilliput. Now I know most people will say the quality sucks.. well for those who would say that... your right!!!....if I was browsing interent on them or on desktop... but since I only use them for movies.. or music inside the frontend thats resolution is 800x600 then everything looks perfect. the skins are made clear and bold and big so theres no small text.. Well others might say what about the "wash out look" or "milky" I simply go to my display options and adjust contrast sharpness and brighness. I swear you wont tell the difference inside the frontend.. but yes if you wanted to use as a desktop then it would suck as the text on that is made much smaller scale than on any Skin's Iv'e seen so it would be hard to read.

PS dont forget the CarPC

if you replaced the stock touchscreen assembly from a touchscreen controlled headunit like an AVIC, then you remove the headunit's primary input/control source. any function that doesn't have a physical hardware button/knob to control it would be unusable/non-controllable. this would essentially render the headunit useless for anything other than PC display/control (kind of defeats the purpose of buying a touchscreen headunit in the first place)
it would render the unit as a source for audio and video with interface for pc. Im not telling people to buy them Im simply showing how if they have it how to do it. There's several people with this problem of wanting carPC's but bought the Avic or whatever prior to knowing about the carPC stuff. This would enable them to use it. Can you think of a feature those units do that the PC frontends can't.. So whats there to lose? Set all the audio controls to medium or level then volume to 70%(pre-clipping) The PC has more features 10 band Eq, Divx playback. yadda, yadda..the audio volume is controlled through the PC and the stereo simply amplifies the input from that. Anything else you can think of why this would'nt work???

If you could find a way of getting one of these screens to work on the AVIC (or whatever) intead of the original TS, then you could put a two way swict between the two and have the TS control both. All depends on whether these TS's are compatible or can be made compatible with the ICE Headunits.![]()
