How are you going to extend the shield of the cable? At the very least, you will want to make sure to reconnect the drain wire, if there is one.

I would suggest you find a decent length premad vga cable like an extension one and then cut the one end of and solder that to the internal board of your screen.. This way all your doing is replacing the cable with a longer one and not cutting and having a ugly join that will pickup and give of noise.

I didn't splice into the VGA cable, but I did de-solder the right angle connector off my Liliput 629, stuffed 3 single row headers in it's place, then ran a half dozen jumper leads from that header to one on a close by motherboard header (~6 inches). I got a fair bit of RF interference but eliminated nearly all of it by upping the refresh rate from 60 to 72 Hz and clamping a ferrite bead around the bundle.

as to extending the shielding that is rather simple I plan to use shielded cable as the add in and connect the 2 shields

about modifying the screen it self I would prefer not to actually modify the LCD and thanks for the ferrite tip

I don't recommend cutting and splicing the VGA cable. The signals have a tight tolerance and are very unforgiving. Besides, you could very easily screw up the motherboard/video card. Good luck!

As others have suggested, a simple y cable or extension would be your best bet. Also, make sure you cover the spare output on the Y cable.

ok, i can bet that you are not going to like the results at all. so you are going to have to buy a new cable along with the extension you should have purchased in the first place.

hint: spent 7 bucks and get an extension

Wow, seems like your putting yourself through a mission. I would never dare extend my VGA cables and risk breaking my screen and or MoBo. 3 out of 5 screens in my setup needed to be extended. I simply bought VGA extensions and called it a day. On one I had a ton of extra cabling, but that was solved by simply rolling it up and tucking it away. All you have to do is connect the extension together then roll it up at the middle and tuck it under the carpet.
