7" touchscreen and still space for DVD

    Hello,

I'm building a carpc that has to fit in a double din slot. All the hardware
is working correctly, and i've build a case that fits nicely into a double din. The only problem i'm facing at the moment is the touchscreen. If I buy a lilliput 7" touchscreen, then I have no space left for a slot-in dvd player. (this has to be a internal drive) Is there anybody who had also made a double din carpc including a DVD drive and a touchscreen? Or are there any tips maybe?

    Thanks!

Why does it have to be internal

Lilliput makes a double din 2 part carpc. one part is a 1 din motorized lcd and the other is the carpc with a dvd drive. The quality is questionable.

Because I want a model that can be placed in every car without modification. I've seen the models from liliput wich contain a 1 din monitor, and a 1 din carpc. But because the number of parts in my carpc, it isnt possible to fit it all into 1 din.. I cant find any 6 or 6.5inch touchscreens, is this for a reason?

    Thanks for replying

If I understood correctly, the author of riderunner/roadrunner (Guino sp?) is creating such computer so you may have to be patient but the option should be there.

are you saying that you already have your componants and want a case? The single din computer from lilliput should be a fully functional computer.

Yes, I have already made a case, and I have al the components to create a car pc. The only thing i'm not sure of at the moment, is the touchscreen. As I said before, i dont think there is a lot of space left at the top when I buy a 7" screen. Or has anyone managed it to fit a 7" screen and a dvd-drive in 2 dins? (without a meganism ofcourse)

    Thanks for the replys!

The bare screen height of a 7" screen is too tall for virtually all double-din openings, and pretty much requires SOME modification to fit. A 6 or 6.5" screen would be much easier to fit, but they are produced in fairly small numbers, usually just made to order, so none available for resale.

NatnekNL, have a look at the CE-400 on this site (http://www.bybyte.com). it has a great set up in that is has a 6.5" screen and a slot loader CD/DVD.

I'm in the same boat as you, I'm looking for a "Universal" double din TFT with built in cd/dvd player so that I can configure the actual hardware to.

The CE-400 is a complete CarPC unit that (in my opionion) is underpowered and too restrivtive (with Windows CE OS).

I have sent an email today (11 March) to ByBytes to ask if they sell the Screen, Bezel and Case seperatly and am waiting on a response.

I will post back on here once I hear back from them.

    Cheers

That's the solution i'm looking for, but the hardware in the CE-400 is a little old/slow It would be nice if the sell the case+screen+drive ! Hope you get a reaction soon.

    Thanks for sharing!

Hi, I got a reply from Bybyte (and forgot to post it until your post reminded me - lol)

They will NOT be stocking that unit at all but are prototyping a new case that will suite the 7" Lilliput Screen and will house a Nano-ITX motherboard. They sent be sketch ups and it looks very much like the case they are selling now and used for their NX-15000 Car PC.

Sadly it does not have a CD/DVD drive bay.

Whilst I havent physically measured the space in a double din area I strongly suspect that its impossible to have both a 7" screen as well as a CD/DVD drive in the one mount.

I think we would either have to go for a 6 1/2 inch screen (and have the bezel custom made - on that note have a look at some of the AWESOME work Autocad has done) or go with a 7" Screen and put the drive behind in in the bay this would be along the lines of this set up (http://cgi.ebay.com/Carputer-VGA-DVD...3%3A1|294%3A50) where the screen moves down to put the cd/dvd in.
