You need to run the sound through your headunit or an amp. to get the sound into your headunit, you need to use either aux in, an FM modulator, or a tape adapter.

there has been much discussion of all the pros and cons of each of these methods, as well as hooking up an amp, so a quick search will be faster then getting people to type out all the pros/cons.

If you search the forum you will find alot of ways to hook up your carputer to your audio system. If you are not going to use a head unit then you can use an FM mod or connect through the aux in, because they only work when hooking up to a head unit. Somehow you have to hook up your sound card directly to your amp, but I'm not too sure as to how to do it. That way you won't need a head unit and you can use the computer volume control. Maybe someone else can fill in where I left off.

Oh yeah and when you hook up your sound card to you amp the amp would power the speakers, not the sound card. THe sound card would just decode the information for the amp to send to the speakers. I think that is what you were asking.
