EBY701T Sunlight Readable Lilliput 7" touchscreen

i won one of these on ebay for $299 shipped. its supposed to be the new 2009 transflective model, led backlit.

anyone know if these are ok? i thought for the price it was worth a shot.

edit nevermind i guess. i see there is another thread about it. not a true transflective but it might still be fine for my needs.

    Its in!

way exceeds my expectations. it might not be a true transflective, but it sure is readable in a lot of sunlight. just hooking it up to my laptop and comparing the screens is a joke- the lilliput looks awesome in any condition.

all i can say is i hope this lasts. i might try getting a squaretrade warranty on it or something... i cant wait to install my carpc finally!

if anyone has been on the fence about the eby701t 2009 model, i dont think you should worry. especially if you get it under $300 like i did.

also, since its led backlight, it hasnt even become warm yet. truly cool for an inexpensive touchscreen

as far as i know, its just the reflective film they add. since the regulars go for just under $200, this version really might not be worth the $400+ they normally go for.

but i do know this is a led model too- i know the 2008 models on ebay were listed as led but they were not. this puts out less heat then my cold feet on a winter morning...

also, the box it came in doesnt mention anything about sunlight readable or transflective. the label says "EBY701-NP/C/T like you say (pretty sure mine is the T model, the slashes mean it can be any one of those), and the picture of the screen on the box looks nothing like the actual screen. and, nothing in the box was sealed wrapped, so there is a very real chance this is just the new led model with an aftermarket reflective film attatched. however, the shipping information and email came for Lilliput, USA, the factory it seems, so this could be a factory upgrade too.

in any case, the screen is perfect for what i need.

Well hmm... Are there any other codes or model numbers on the unit itself? I am looking for a reasonable sunlight-readable screen and this sounds like it could work well for me. Also, if is not too much trouble, can you share the name of the ebay seller, maybe we can get info from him (or at least the same screen).

certainly. the seller had it listed at 299 and nobody even bid on it, im pretty sure thats about the price he paid because he now has 10+ more in stock, but theyre at $399 buy it now with no auction. he was nice enough to honor the 299 price for me though, i think i got lucky. i had worried he would have made an excuse to not ship it...

    his ebay profile-

    http://myworld.ebay.com/sharptron/

like i said, he has loads more now - http://cgi.ebay.com/Tranflective-LIL...3%3A1|294%3A50

btw- the manual in the box specifically states 240nits for average touchscreen mode, even though the screen is listed 400-500nits everywhere. after adjusting for color and all, if i put it to my samsung 22" that is 280nits, the lilliput is definitely brighter. i would guess this screen in its adjusted settings runs around 320nits or more if i had to guestimate.

i also want to add- one GLARING problem i will have is the video connector. its on the back, but sticks out to the side. it seems ok, since the connector itself ends up being flush with the screen, but the wires themselves stick past the side, with no way around it. i have to mount this thing in a space i can slide it into, and i dont have any room on the sides to allow for the wire protruding. i'll make it work, somehow, but it is pretty disappointing how that was engineered.

i shot the picture at a slight angle so you can see the connector itself. it actually lines up perfectly with the side, but the wires are the problem as you can see

    the back

    the front

    sorry about the quality

    for kicks

The image on the ebay site make it appear to have about a 1 inch space on the right for the plastic frame (possibly where the controls are). Is this the case, and can you strip it down to basically just the screen itself? I currently have an older lilliput 7" screen, I no longer recall the model number, but the space I have fits it exactly, any extra space like a control board larger than the viewable screen would make it too big. And I'd love to have a display that is that easy to read.

Also, you might try something like this if it's just a standard analog cable.

nope, its a mini-vga or something... its a hybrid connector as it has audio and composite connections in the pigtail, along with a round tiny vga connector. it looks like a lilliput proprietary connector.

im sure you can take this apart though. its only 4 phillips screws, but im not trying it

edit- manual calls is an SKS A/V input cable
