    Those Keycorp/Unisys screens.

I see that they constantly get posted up here when sold on Ebay.
I see they go pretty cheaply (unless two suckers get ebay fever).
I know they are pretty old now, and not that bright.

    But,

Has anyone actually bought one of the K55 with ISA/ K57's with the PCI controller for a carPC?

    Has anyone actually tried it.
In the UK, we get loads of rain, and loads of cloud, and not much sun. I know the Keycorp wouldn't be too visible in direct sunlight, but with some kind of Visoring it should be workable.

10" or 12" would be OK, and now I have the Saab I have quite a bit of Dash real estate to place with, especially in the lower center console, where I could actually build in the screen infront of the stick, and have it sheilded by a hood/visor without the visor being too visible.

Watching movies would be a secondary use for this screen anyway, as it would be for GPS and operating winamp/other MP3 software, I plan to install other screens for passengers.

On Ebay UK there are a bunch available with cards cheaply
    K55 screens and ISA cards
    Single K57 with PCI card
Bunch of K57's with PCI cards
    or
One single monitor with PCI card, no buy it now option, but not much action on it yet

I know compared to modern small VGA TFTs they are crap, but with the costs in the UK, maybe these are what people could want for MK1 CarPCs?

Any thoughts, and one tried one, anyone still using one?

    Hi.

Don't do it , the ISA cards use a chip that only win3.1 can use and the display is a DSTN (not verry bright).

Since you are in the uk and in cheshire , take a trip to the radio rally in Blackpool this wk-end (sunday I think). I picked up a nice 10.?? xvga (1024x768) lcd with std. vga inputs for 60 quid. It's more than good enough for a carputer (or vanputer in my case) - if you have the room. The guy I bought it from had loads , but they may be gone by now.

Post a message if you want the details on the radio rally. I think its norbreck castle , but god knows how you spell it.

PS I have one of the K55 isa cards + lcd.

Hm thanks I shall look into that. I was thinking of the K57 rather than the K55, but if you can pick up 10" VGA for 60 from the rally, I would be stupid not to.

Im in Australia, and those monitors get posted on Ebay here a lot too. I was wondering if anyone has experience with the K57 (PCI) ones?
