its great, its also about 3 months old, HOPEFULLY these "new" screens have reached the shelves of suppliers, particularly the one I just ordered from, so I can get the new model and not the old one.

    Cool

How do you win on Ebay.... Auction goes to highest bidder..... not winner.

I thought the xenarcs were wide screen, why would support for all those 1.3 ratio resolutions even help, wouldn't they just be squished or only use 80% of the screen (black edges)?

I would like to see more 1.6 ratio resolutions like the 800/480

Or I wonder if you have a gforce wich will pretty much out put anything you want if they will support it if its in that range?

If you get the chance to test the new ones let us know.

The whole point of supporting those other higher resolutions is compatibility with a wider range of video cards and overall convenience.

You don't get a better image when you run higher than 800x480, but at least you can take advantage of the full resolution of the monitor and run near the native resolution (i.e. 800x600 for instance)

I have the older model and only have two options: Find a video card that supports tweaking so I can run at 800x480, or run at 640x480 which is only utilizing half of the resolution and looks like crap because of pixel "doubling" (1.67x)

The fact is most video cards/drivers don't support 16:9 (or 10) style resolutions by default. The LCD becomes more versatile if you can plug it to almost any computer and at least get a display, even if things are squished.

It depends a lot on how they are compressing the higher res image down to fit in the native resolution. If they are simply throwing away pixels, it's probably going to look like crap. If they do some kind of anti-aliasing (pixel averaging) it will probably look pretty decent. The image will be less sharp but you do gain the advantage of showing a lot more information.

See, now that is one of the biggest reasons I am shying away from the via motherboards, I hear they are very not-tweakable and the only drivers I have found for them that support 800/480 are meant for windows CE. Maybe by the time I get to ordering my whole system in a month or 2 some better vid drivers might be out then I can seriously consider blowing the money on a Xenarc/Epia combo.
As it stands I am looking at the chaintec with the gfoce graphics, but its micro atx so not as convenient for the dash as the epia.

... oh well, time will tell.
    Thanks for the info
