    sigh...

i was <--> that close to getting a tm701l, but i just got my tax figures back, and it turns out that i somehow owe the government like 700 bucks. there goes my plan.

anyway, is there anyone in the md/dc area with one of these monitors? i wanna see it for myself, to get an idea of if it will fit in my car...

Im confused... Please bear with me.

You are taking the compositie dash screen, removing the controller board and adding a new one which gives it VGA abilities? No wonder the picture is so damn good!

Where is the controller board coming from, is it being split from xenarc screens or coming board only from the manufacturer, Gain?

Would there be an ability to route the buttons to a connector on the back of the screen so that people could hook the buttons to their PC as well?

"No wonder the picture is so damn good” This is exactly what I said when I connected the new board and it worked perfectly. The controller is coming from xenarc monitors (which use the same LCD panel). I'll be buying the boards separately so that I don't end up with extra LCD panels.

I will be using TM-701L buttons to control the monitor. Most likely you can run the wires all the way to the computer without a problem.

I have been browsing this forum for quite a while now and this is the 1st time I've posted (please be gentle )

Q: If the panel in the TM701 is the same as the Xenarc surely that means that the quoted resolution is not 1440x234 sub-pixels but must be the same as the xenarc at 2400*480?

If that's the case then the TM701 screens are seriously being undersold (by everyone as all sites quote 1440x234) on their screen quaility as that means they are effectively the same as the Xenarc 700V composite screen which retails for more than the TM701 and isn't even flip out as that adds cost too.

I too am a little confused.

Armen - is it correct that install requirements will be to pop the case and replace the NTSC controller board with the new VGA controller?

If this is the case, the the economics of it don't add up for me.

I don't dispute anyone's right to sell stuff that is in demand for a profit, however, if the above is true, then this is the most expensive vga controller I've ever seen.

LCD Panels are the same but the brain (controller board) is different. If xenarcs NTSC Controller is better then the one in TM-701L then that would be the reason for the difference in resolution and price. Also competition, everybody who sells xenarc screens gets them from xenarc who set the price.

Installation requirement will be swapping the VGA controller, adding an inverter, running the wires for the buttons, connecting a VGA cable and power cable, installing the touch screen, running all the wires through the housing (VGA, power, touch), installing a controller for the touch screen, put it together and test it.

I don't understand why you don't see the economics of it

Also, the VGA controller is costing me more then the complete TM-701L monitor and I hope you don't think that everything I mentioned above takes 20 min. to put together.
