    Lilliput 629-GL Dark Screen

    Good Morning,
This damn screen is keeping me awake, and I had to make a post dedicated to it in the display forum as I have the day off. Anyyywho..on to the problem!

I finally got the PC to...well, "work", but the screen is giving me some issues. The screen works great except for displaying colors incorrectly. It seems as if no "grays" or shaded colors are displayed, instead, those colors are BLACK. This makes it awfully difficult to navigate the computer as you could probably imagine. The screen did work perfectly while it was in the basement, I started to notice this while installing the unit in the car.

I am not sure if I actually burnt something out on the circuit board, or if it is simple a loose/bad ribbon cable. I took the screen out of my dash bezel to see if I could re-seat the cable, but I had no idea how to even take it off...nevermind put it back on. I will do some searching on that subject, but if someone could guide me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. IF it is a damaged circuit board, etc...can anyone pinpoint what I would have to replace? I am more than willing to buy a spare part and see if I can piece things together.

I hope this is enough information, if not just let me know...I will surely be checking the post alll daaay.

    Thanks a million

The movie Valkyrie...you can see how dark the screen looks

not sure whether you still have it in its' case or what you are running it off, but mine does tend to crush blacks quite badly when the brightness is turned down. Do you have the brightness turned down through either the OS/front end or with the brightness controls built into the monitor?

I had the monitor in a bybyte double din case which exposed most of the innards. I have now put the whole unit back into the lilliput casing. I have the touchscreen attached to the carPC. I've also tried my desktop computer. Both computers produce black images so I hope it's not BOTH computers ;-). I have tried adjusting the screen's brightness and settings to no avail

What about using the Reset option in the menu? maybe the color range(I think its called) is off?

Also have you tried attaching something to the video inputs and checking to see if they also have the same color issues.

Finally. Have you checked both cables for any bent pins?

I have reset the otpions and tried some of the defaults. I haven't tried using the rca included on the cable. I'd really like to adjust the ribbon cables but I can't figure out how to remove it. I doubt that would be the issue but who knows

So I did manage to get the ribbon cable out without breaking anything...WOOO!! However, it made NO difference at all. I wonder if I fried the actual vga/proprietary connector...it's certainly worth the $10 to see if this is the case. Otherwise I will be buying a new screen when I have the money.

I also tried the RCA connector and had the same issue, but good thinking!

    Thanks a bunch

I am guessing the on screen menu has normal brightness... If that is also dim, then you can rule out the VGA interface.

    Good call Slate
The menu as far as I remember(nothing is in the car ATM) is the normal coloring. Although white screens are more difficult to see the problem with(aka the menu). If this were normal, but the screen were dark...would that indicate the vga is gone?

Well...some good news is that I managed to fix the screen. I accidentally pressed one of the buttons while shifting and it happened to auto adjust. Now the screen looks brandy new! I know I played with all of the buttons too...guess I missed one.

I've had the same issue with this screen. I've only seen it happen when I leave my computer on too long and the battery runs down. Took me a while to figure it out the first time, but now I know what to do... enable the 'auto-color' option from the menu.

Anyway, I suspect it has something to do with either the voltage or current dropping below a certain level before shutting down completely.
