two screens side by side may do the trick for you. then one could be your dash things and the other could display gps.
I want to replace my instrument panel with a widescreen monitor that will in turn display digital equivalents of what was on my instrument panel, so i am looking for a non-standard screen, something like 12" wide and only 4" or 5" tall...something like that...any ideas?
Thanks

there was much talk about this a awhile ago-- search around-- the main idea morphed into a similar setup idea as the 09 skyline gt-r (a screen that displays guages the analoge guages didn't, but maintained the factory gauges for safety reasons).
the worst part about using only screens for gauges, is that if anything were to happen to the controller computer, you loose all of your guages-- that means no gas gauge, or speedo--and not having either could be really bad(for either your car, or your driving history).
if you are really interested in doing this though, your car will need either a aftermarket engine computer, or obd2, depending on the year it was manufactured, and you will also need the Dash Command Software (in the mp3car store). you would then be able to program any guages you would need.
I was thinking about doing this for my Camaro, except having a small 16x2 character display running off a microcontroller rather than the computer for backup incase the computer died. This is actually one of the things that prompted my GaugeDisplay software.

Just a shame I can't justify a carpc to use it on anymore.
