Xenarc 700IDT in-dash fitment

I'm looking into the possibility of a carputer for my Miata, and have a couple of questions about this in-dash monitor.

First, I've read that although advertised as fitting a standard DIN opening in fact the unit is actually a little too large to fit without modifications. The posts I've seen regarding this are a few years old now, and I wondered if Xenarc might have addressed this problem on their newer units.

Secondly, as can be seen in the pics my head unit protrudes about 1" from the dash. Would it be possible to mount the screen in the lower DIN slot, or will the head unit's encoder knob interfere with the back of the screen or prevent it from opening properly. I'm concerned that if I mount the screen in the upper DIN slot I will cover the air vents above it.

As you can see it fits in a single din opening perfectly fine. My screen also sticks out a bit, and while the screen does touch it, it does not prevent it from opening. The screen itself sticks out about an inch when closed and that is the hinge point.

Something of note, if you have a support bar in the back of your DIN opening, you may have to use the barrel plug power connector as opposed to the 4 pin power connector just so the unit seats all the way in the slot.

Thanks for the heads-up, Malcom. As you might imagine, the Miata is going to be a pretty tight fit all the way around. As it is, I just barely was able to get the aftermarket HU all the way in. Thanks again,
