    Awkward dash advice

Hi, I have a Seat Ibiza with an awkward dash to fit my screen in.

Here is what my dash looks like:

Originally I was hoping to just fit my new touch screen where the current screen goes. But that screen shows the Air Con temp and values, so unless I have a way of putting that information on my new screen (probably next to impossible right?) So now I'm thinking I would have to use a single DIN motorized screen instead, right about here:

Now, I don't really want to have to use a pop out screen, as I prefer the look of the screen being part of the dash. I also work in a friggin touch screen company, so I could get a standalone screen very cheap, so it's even more annoying that I might have to buy a motorized one from someplace else. Unfortunately I can't see any other option.

So with that in mind, can anyone recommend me a good motorized touch screen I could use? I don't really have a budget per say, I'll just spend what I need to so long as it's reliable works well and looks good.

I've been looking at the Prology PCM-750T, but can only find them in the Motherland Russia... :/

    Any help is greatly welcomed.

One cool hack would be to move the in dash display into a pop out screen and put the touch screen where the in dash display is. Probably would have to come up with a custom cable of some kind, but it would be pretty cool to have it pop out when you needed it, then fold away when you didn't.

Another option would be for you to figure out a way to wire the new touchscreen monitor to toggle back and forth between your car pc and the oem car data screen. I've seen someone on here do something like that with an acura tl I believe. He had to hack up some custom wiring tho to make it work. Do a search and see if you can find some similar projects.

    ^ what they said.

you can go so many ways with this one-- the pop-up screen has a certain cool factor though, but there is also the option of using something like a fusion brain to control the factory hvac stuff, but would require custom cables, and programming-- this could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your level of expertise.

I think the problem is that the in dash display here is an LCD. NOT and LCD screen. So, there is no video signal to display. It's like a digital watch face.

The only way around that would be to reverse hack the wiring and have it function as inputs to the PC, then display the same stuff on the PC screen. I'm sure it is *possible* but that is some serious time and effort!

Do you really need the factory screen at all? looks like your hvac controls are down under the cd player and the factory screen just tells you what speed you fan is set to. Personally I could go without that.

Wow I never thought of that, that is certainly a possibility, but it would mean I would have to buy a motorized screen just to get the motor and mechanism from?

Trying to hack the cars functions and sensors would take me the rest of my life I think, and even then I'm not sure I would get it right.

Something I did consider is somehow connecting another button/switch onto the bottom buttons that control the A/C:

If I know it's on 0, and the PC knows the + button has been pressed once, then surely I can go from there?

Also, Here are the electronics behind the plastic:

The temperature is the main thing I would miss, you're right it's not a huge loss, but I would like to know if I am heating or cooling myself before I get too hot/cold.

Aren't carputers supposed to make things easier anyways? D:

There are ways of displaying that info on your computer LCD. Since it is just a simple display, no feedback at all, it would be one of the easiest to do.

30 Digital Outputs -- Directly drive a relay

    Really?

I can't imagine where I would even start with something like that, how could I read what the screen is being told to display?
